Men's Volleyball Falls to Stevenson on Friday Night

OWINGS MILLS, MD (March 21, 2025) -- The King's College Monarchs built up two strong sets against the Stevenson Mustangs. Though the Mustangs stayed on top and defeated the Monarchs 3-0 on Friday night in Owings Mills Gymnasium.
 
King's (11-11, 0-4 MAC) began the first set with back-to-back blocks by Logan Dougherty and Logan Aikens. The two Middle Atlantic Conference opponents began trading shots as the crowd saw several ties and lead changes. It was 11-11 when the Mustangs (12-7, 3-2 MAC) created a 4-1 push to get away from their visitors. The Monarchs were not going down silently as they responded back with two straight tallies that included a kill by Gavin Gilhool. Though Stevenson had every answer and took the first set 25-18.
 
The Mustangs maintained their momentum with an 11-4 start of the second set. King's recorded three points that comprised of a kill by Logan Place and a block by Gilhool. Stevenson gained another 4-1 jolt to stay ahead of the Monarchs. King's stayed composed and created a 9-4 push thanks to Mason Lesher, Dougherty, and Aikens to get within two of the hosts. Even with the Monarchs pestering, Stevenson was able to edge past King's, 25-21.
 
The Mustangs kept the same energy going into the third and final set of the evening. Stevenson remained victorious, 25-10.
 
Dougherty paced the offense with seven kills and four digs. Place was right behind with five kills. Ben Maskiell passed out 13 helpers for the Monarchs. Greg Bousquet pushed the defense with six digs and two blocks. Aiden Glasgow gathered his own four digs to end the night.
 
Stevenson's Tim Flanagan had a team-high of 16 kills with six digs. Anthony Pezzino collected 15 kills and eight digs. Connor Roth passed out 34 of the team's 40 assists. JD Sarmuksnis led the Mustangs with nine digs.
 
King's have a short turn around as they have a MAC matchup against Hood and a battle against Mount Aloysius tomorrow, March 22nd at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. in Frederick, MD.
