FREDERICK, MD (March 22, 2025) -- The King's College men's volleyball team went 1-1 in their Saturday tri-match in Volpe Athletic Center. The Monarchs defeated Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) opponent Hood, 3-0. The squad battled against Mount Aloysius but succumbed to a 3-1 loss. King's are now 12-12 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Gavin Gilhool broke the career solo block record during the matchup against Mount Aloysius.

vs. Hood, W 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-17):
The Monarchs (12-11, 1-4 MAC) started off strong with a five-point swing that included tallies by
Logan Dougherty,
Ben Maskiell,
Greg Bousquet, and
Logan Aikens. From then on, the two opponents began trading points with neither allowing more than two at a time. The score was 14-8 when King's made an 11-4 run with kills by Dougherty, Bousquet, and
Alex Martellacci. The Monarchs took the first set, 25-12.

The second set was unlike the first with several lead changes and ties. The score was even at 9-9 when King's broke free and collected a 3-0 run. Hood (4-18, 0-5 MAC) responded with back-to-back kills before the Monarchs recorded a 6-1 jolt to create a six point cushion. The Blazers were not going down without a fight and produced a 5-1 burst to get within two. King's stayed composed and after a 6-2 run, the Monarchs celebrated a 25-19 victory.

The third and final set was a battle as every two points King's would put on the board, Hood would answer with one. The score was 23-17 when
Logan Place and Aikens scored two unanswered tallies to win 25-17.

The Monarchs ended with 34 kills, 27 assists, six aces, five blocks, and 28 digs. Dougherty had a team-high of 13 kills with six assists and a hitting percentage of .722. Maskeill dished out 17 assists with three aces. Bousquet had eight digs, five kills, and two blocks.

Hood finished with 23 kills, 21 assists, six aces, and 14 digs. Charles Casas had 10 kills and four digs. Sean Seely was right behind with eight kills and five digs. Cameron Nugent passed out 11 helpers and Gael Bravo had eight.

vs. Mount Aloysius, L 1-3Â (25-21, 20-25, 19-25, 14-25):
The first set was neck-and-neck for much of the way. King's (12-12, 1-4 MAC) was down 14-12 when the squad produced a 5-0 run that included
Greg Bousquet,
Logan Place,
Logan Aikens, and
Logan Dougherty. From then on, the Monarchs maintained control, but Mount Aloysius (5-13, 1-1 AMCC) pestered them down to the end. With a final kill by Dougherty, King's took the first set 25-21.

The Mounties took an early 7-3 lead to start the second set. The Monarchs maintained an edge and looked to take over, but Mount Aloysius had every answer. At 23-17, King's made one last 3-0 push before falling 25-20.

The third set was much like the second as the Mounties maintained their momentum. The score was 22-14 when the Monarchs created a 5-1 jolt thanks to Dougherty, Aikens, and
Aiden Glasgow to get within four. Though Mount Aloysius tacked on back-to-back tallies to earn a 25-19 win.

King's came roaring back with a 7-3 start of the fourth and final set. The Mounties began chipping away at their deficit when the adversary posted a 5-0 run to gain a 12-9 lead. From then on it was in Mount Aloysius' and the Mounties remained victorious 25-14.

The Monarchs finished with 25 kills, 33 assists, 12 blocks, and 26 digs. Dougherty fueled the offense with 15 kills with three blocks and six digs. Bousquet had 10 kills, four blocks, and four digs. Place collected eight kills for the afternoon. Glasgow handed out 24 helpers, eight digs, and two blocks. On the defensive end, Aikens produced a career-high of five block assists and
Gavin Gilhool had a total of  three.

Mount Aloysius ended with 45 kills, 42 assists, six aces, nine blocks, and 32 digs. Matthew Franz sparked the Mounties with 22 kills and Andrew Wlodarczyk was right behind with 11. Evan Schmidt dished out 42 assists with two blocks and six digs. Tayshaun Johnson collected seven blocks and Corey Obeldobel finished with a team-high of eight digs.

The Monarchs will return to McGrane Gymnasium for a MAC meeting against Arcadia at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26
