Knights Rally Late, Monarchs Drop MAC Freedom Heartbreaker to Arcadia

WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 28, 2025) – The King's College baseball team fell 9-8 to the Knights of Arcadia University on Friday afternoon at Lipo Field. With the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom loss, the Monarchs move to 6-14 overall, 1-6 in conference play as the Knights improve to 14-7, 5-2.  Sophomore infielder Jaiden Wanamaker hit a two-run home run and senior pitcher/outfielder Zach Day reached 100 career RBIs in the setback.

Arcadia got going early with one run in the first, but the Monarchs answered back in the bottom of the inning as Troy Neff notched a base hit through the right side and Jaiden Wanamaker hit a two-run home run to make it 2-1. Later, with the bases loaded, Michael Marmolejos reached base on a fielder's choice to score Day and extend the King's lead to 3-1. The Knights tied it with two runs in the second inning.

Day's 100-career RBI milestone was reached in the fourth inning after hitting a single and bringing Neff home to make it 4-3. The Knights added an additional run in the top of the sixth before Day hit another single up the middle to bring home Will Mecca and Kevin Kullman shot the ball to center field for a base hit and an RBI to retake the lead, 6-4. The Monarchs tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning when Neff hit a single to center to score pinch runner Ian Campbell and Day hit a double through the right side to bring Mecca home and make it 8-4.

The Monarchs fell in game one of the MAC Freedom series in heartbreaking fashion as the Knights went on to score three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to secure the 9-8 comeback win.

Neff led King's with three runs, five hits and one RBI followed closely by Day's three hits and three RBIs and Wanamaker's two hits and two RBIs. Day (0-4) was given the pitching loss, crediting Arcadia's Mitchell Bramsway (3-1) with the win on the mound.

The Monarchs are back on the road tomorrow, March 29 for a MAC Freedom doubleheader with the Knights. The games will be at 12 and 2:30 p.m. at Arcadia's Skip Wilson Field.
