DUNMORE, PA (March 4, 2025) – The King's College baseball team split a double header with Penn State Scranton on Tuesday afternoon at Schautz Stadium. The Monarchs fell 7-5 in game one and came back to win the second game 8-2, picking up their first win of the season to move to 1-2 and pushing Scranton to 3-2 overall. Both
Kevin Kullman and
Owen Ness hit their first home runs of the season and
Zach Day secured his 150
th career hit.
Game 1 – L, 7-5
Scranton jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after scoring two runs in each of the first two innings. In the bottom of the second, Kullman scored off a sacrifice fly to center field from
Michael Marmolejos. The next inning,
Troy Neff scored after
Zach Day hit a single to left field.
Jason Cunha hit a single through the left side to score
Jaiden Wanamaker and cut the lead to one. Kullman hit his first home run of the season in the fifth inning, scoring two, to give the Monarchs the 5-4 lead. Scranton scored three runs in the sixth inning to take the first game with a final score of 7-5. Guy Mushow snagged his first win on the mound as Day was handed his first pitching loss of the season.
Game 2 – W, 8-2
Penn State Scranton scored a run in in the first and second innings and the Monarchs answered back with Ness's home run in the second to tie it at 1-1. Scranton took the 2-1 lead in the third, but the Monarchs ran away with it after Marmolejos was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Day and advancing Kullman to third and Cunha to second to tie it again at 2-2. Ness was hit by a pitch, advancing all runners once more and scoring Kullman.
Jacob Sutton hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Cunha, and two more runs in the third gave the Monarchs the 6-2 lead. In the sixth inning, Neff scored on an error by the catcher and Ness then singled to the shortstop to score Kullman and secure the 8-2 win. Scranton's Donald Healy was marked the losing pitcher as
Colby Gardner tallied his first pitching win of the 2025 campaign.
The King's College baseball team will next travel to Williamsport, PA for back-to-back double headers with Lycoming on Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9.
