Monarchs are Bested by #8/#9 Messiah on Saturday Afternoon

WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 8, 2025) -- The King's College men's volleyball team was bested by #8/#9 Messiah University 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in McGrane Gymnasium. The Monarchs fall to 11-10 overall and 0-3 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play. The Falcons improve to 19-1 overall and 4-0 in conference.
 
It was a battle to start the contest as the two teams traded tallies. The Monarchs (11-10, 0-3 MAC) were ahead 4-3 when Messiah (19-1, 4-0 MAC) collected four straight points. King's wasted no time and answered back with a 4-2 burst that included kills by Logan Dougherty to get within one of their opponent. The Falcons responded with another 13-4 run to gain a 10-point cushion. The Monarchs were not going down without a fight and produced a late 9-4 jolt thanks to Greg Bousquet, Logan Aikens, Dougherty, Ben Maskiell, and Alex Martellacci. Though Messiah collected the last tally to take the first set, 25-20.
 
The Falcons maintained their momentum with a 20-8 lead in the second set. King's pestered Messiah late in the matchup with a 7-5 run before falling 25-15.
 
The third and final set was much like the second in Messiah's control. The Monarchs were down 15-8 when the squad created a 7-4 push to get within four of the visitors. The Falcons had every answer and remained victorious 25-17.
 
Dougherty had a team-high of 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .550. Maskiell dished out 19 assists with five kills. Aiden Glasgow pushed the defense with six digs.
 
Messiah's Todd Snyder fueled the offense with nine kills and Tyler McConnell was right behind with eight. Branden Sharp dished out 35 out of the team's 39 assists. Connor Stauffer paced the defense with six digs.
 
King's will be on the road following the break on Friday, March 21st at 6:30 p.m. to take on Stevenson. The squad will have a road tri-match against MAC opponent Hood at 12 p.m. and Mount Aloysius at 2 p.m. in Frederick, MD on Saturday, March 22nd.
