DUNMORE, PA (April 1, 2025) – The King's College baseball team dominated the Nittany Lions of Penn State Scranton 22-5 on Tuesday night at Matt McGloin Baseball Field. With the non-conference win, the Monarchs improve to 7-16 overall and remain 1-8 in MAC Freedom play while the Nittany Lions fall to 10-12, 2-2 in the PSUAC.
Owen Kosar and
Michael Cohen both hit home runs to help the Monarchs secure the win.
King's came out swinging, posting nine runs in the first inning.
Jaiden Wanamaker got the offense going with a double to score
Troy Neff and
Zach Day followed up with another double to bring Wanamaker home.
Kevin Kullman then hit a single to score Day and later advanced home on a wild pitch to give the Monarchs the 4-0 lead. Kosar hit a single to bring Jenkins home,
Owen Ness hit a single to put
Jacob Sutton on second and score Kosar, Neff reached first on a fielder's choice in which
Justin Stefanowicz was out at second, but Sutton still made it home. Day singled to push Neff to second and Ness home, and Kullman singled to score Neff before the inning was retired with the Monarchs leading 9-0.
In the top of the second, Kosar hit his first home run of the season to add another run and make it 10-0. With the Monarchs' bats still on fire, Wanamaker hit a double in the fourth to bring Stefanowicz and Sutton home before Day singled to score Wanamaker. The next inning, Jenkins scored on a sacrifice fly out to right field by Sutton and
Michael Cohen hit a three-run home run, also his first of the season, bringing Ness and Kosar home to extend the lead to 17-0. The Nittany Lions scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut it to 17-3.
In the top of the seventh,
Justin Richards hit a single, putting Ness on second and scoring Kosar.
Michael Marmolejos followed up with a single to put Cohen on second, Richards on third and bring Ness home.
Blaze Graham then reached first on an error, advancing the base runners and scoring two. The Monarchs tacked on one more run before the Nittany Lions answered back with two as King's secured the 22-5 win on Tuesday night.
Kosar led the Monarchs with four runs, four hits and two RBIs alongside Ness' three runs, two hits and one RBI and Wanamaker's two runs, two hits and three RBIs.
Connor Reynolds (3-0) snagged the win on the mound after going four innings with five strikeouts, handing Scranton's Brandon Mabey (0-1) the pitching loss.
The Monarchs return home to Lipo Field tomorrow, April 2 to host the Bloodhounds of John Jay College at 4 p.m.
