WILKES-BARRE, PA (August 29, 2025) – The King's College women's volleyball team opened the 2025 season in dominant fashion on Friday afternoon, earning a pair of 3-0 victories over Penn State Schuylkill and Keystone College inside McGrane Gymnasium.
Match 1: King's 3, Penn State Schuylkill 0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-10)
The Monarchs overcame a slow start in the opening set and used a strong offensive rhythm and tough serving to secure their first win of the season. After falling behind 8-2 in the first set, King's responded with a 10-2 run, highlighted by back-to-back aces from
Bella Salvia and kills from
Emma Bolich and
Lindsay Arezina, to grab a 12-10 lead.
Salvia finished the frame with a pair of late service aces, including the set-clinching point at 25-21.
King's carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to an 11-4 lead thanks to another strong serving stretch from
Salvia and steady setting from
Ariela Towsey.
Salvia posted five kills in the set, while
Arezina and
Madisyn Heiser-Elsea added key points at the net as King's took the frame 25-13.
The Monarchs dominated the third set, jumping out to a 14-4 advantage and never looking back.
Salvia capped a stellar match with three consecutive kills during a 6-0 run, and
Bolich sealed the 25-10 win with a kill off an assist from
Brynn Giordano.
Salvia led all players with 19 kills, hitting .400 for the match, and added two aces and six digs.
Arezina chipped in eight kills, while
Towsey dished out 21 assists to go along with two aces. Defensively,
Morgan Williams anchored the back row with a team-high 12 digs.
Match 2: King's 3, Keystone 0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-14)
King's carried its opening-match momentum and delivered its most efficient performance of the day, hitting .348 as a team in a sweep of Keystone. The Monarchs set the tone early in set one, using a 7-0 run on the serve of
Towsey to build an 11-3 advantage.
Bolich then stepped up and fired three straight aces as part of a late surge that closed out the frame 25-10.
Set two featured another dominant service performance as
Theresa Lynch and
Bolich combined for five aces during a dominant 12-1 run, helping King's cruise to a 25-8 win.
In the third set, the Monarchs showcased their depth.
Mia Campanile entered and made an immediate impact with three kills, including the match-clincher at 25-14.
Towsey continued to pace the offense with 26 assists, while
Jessica Menze and
Hannah Swinsburg provided key blocks to stifle the Giants.
Bolich tallied five aces and seven kills,
Salvia posted another strong effort with nine kills, and
Lynch added seven kills and two aces.
Williams led the defense once again with 14 digs, and King's totaled 14 service aces in the match.
With the sweep, King's improves to 2-0 on the season and will return to action on the road at Marywood University on Wednesday, September 3 at 6:00 p.m.
