SCRANTON, PA (September 3, 2025) – The King's College women's volleyball team suffered its first setback of the 2025 season on Wednesday evening, falling 3-1 to Marywood University at Insalaco Arena.
The opening set was a tightly contested battle that featured several swings of momentum.
Theresa Lynch and
Emma Bolich helped spark the Monarch offense early, while
Morgan Williams held strong in the back row with multiple digs to keep rallies alive. King's earned a set point at 25–24 after a kill from
Mia Campanile, but Marywood responded with three straight points, including a pair of kills from
Taylor Hallam, to take the opener 27–25.
King's regrouped in set two and came out strong, jumping out to a 12-7 lead.
Ariela Towsey distributed the ball well, setting up
Lynch and
Hannah Swinsburg for kills, while
Bolich added a timely block at the net. With the set tied at 20–20,
Towsey and
Lynch connected for back-to-back kills to give the Monarchs control, and
Williams capped off the frame with a key defensive stand as King's closed out a 25–23 win to even the match.
The Pacers, however, responded strongly in the third set. Marywood's
Hallam and
Genevieve Pollock combined for 12 kills in the frame, consistently challenging the Monarch block. Despite steady play from
Swinsburg and
Bolich, the Pacers built an early cushion and maintained it to take the set 25–17.
In the fourth, King's fought to stay within striking distance, with
Lynch and
Campanile continuing to produce offensively.
Towsey notched her 30th assist midway through the set, and
Williams surpassed the 25-dig mark, but Marywood closed on a 6–2 run, relying on their strong defense to seal the 25–18 win and the 3–1 match victory.
Lynch led the way for King's with 11 kills, while
Bolich and
Swinsburg each chipped in seven.
Campanile added six kills off the bench, and
Towsey had a 30 assist, 10 dig double-double. Defensively,
Bolich stood tall with four blocks while
Williams turned in another standout performance with 27 digs as she looks to move into fourth all-time in program history.
The Monarchs move to 2–1 on the season and will look to bounce back at home Saturday Sept. 6 for a tri-match against Ramapo and St. Joseph's Brooklyn at 12 / 4pm.
