Women's Soccer Falls to SUNY New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, NY (September 13, 2025)—The King's College women's soccer team suffered 5-0 setback on the road Saturday against the defending SUNYAC champion New Paltz. The Monarchs now sit at 1-3-1 overall while the Hawks move to 2-2-1 on the year.

New Paltz opened the first half with four shots in the first eight minutes, breaking through at 7:15 with a left-to-right cross from Brooke Kelleher to Addison Weiner to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Hawks capitalized at 38:14 on two crosses, culminating in a header that found the back of the net just below the crossbar and doubling their lead.

The Monarchs' best chance of the first half came less than thirty seconds later, when a pass up the right flank found Jessica Juarez, who fired a shot toward the right post—only to be denied by the New Paltz keeper. Madison Jellema made a strong push up the left side for King's second shot of the half, but a Hawks defender stepped in to block the attempt.

Courtney Monard and the Monarch defense had a busy opening half, facing twelve shots with seven on frame. Monard tallied five saves including two terrific efforts in the 23rd and 37th minutes to keep King's within striking distance.

Eight minutes into the second half, New Paltz extended their lead to three following a quick change of possession. The Hawks broke up the right side, and a shot from the edge of the box curled into the top left corner—just beyond the reach of a diving Monard.

The Hawks tacked on another in the 64th in similar fashion, taking possession from King's and quickly scoring on the counter to bring their lead to four.

Madison Jellema fired off three shots for the Monarchs in a six-minute stretch from the 73rd to the 79th minute. Her first attempt was aimed at the top left corner, while the next two were low drives down the middle—all turned away by the New Paltz keeper.

New Paltz closed out the scoring in the 84th after a scramble in front of net left the ball loose for the Hawks to knock in their fifth goal.

Jellema paced King's with four shots and three on goal while Juarez took a shot on goal as well. In goal, Monard recorded nine saves in her 73 minutes of play while sophomore Findley Hillebrant saw her first action of the season for the remaining 17 minutes.

King's women's soccer is set to return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 17, as they head to Williamsport, PA for a matchup against Lycoming College at 7:00 PM.
