Women's Soccer Comes Up Short in 4-3 Battle at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, PA (September 17, 2025)—The King's College women's soccer team lost to Lycoming College in an exciting non-conference matchup on Wednesday night by a score of 4-3. With the result, the Monarchs fall to 1-6-1on the year while the Warriors improve to 7-0 in 2025.

The first half unfolded as a scoring frenzy, with both teams combining for five goals in a fast-paced opening 45 minutes.

The Monarchs got things going directly after the opening kickoff, scoring just fifteen seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Mackenzie Huffer sent the opening touch down into Lycoming's half for Jessica Juarez. Juarez made nifty moves to get past multiple defenders before sending a low cross from right to left for Maya Parker to deposit her first goal of the season into the bottom left corner of the net.

In the ninth minute, Lycoming tied the game at one apiece on a deflected shot from the top left edge of the box glanced off the hand of Courtney Monard, hit the crossbar, and dropped into the top corner.

The Warriors pulled in front in the 29th on a foul on Caitlin Kirk just outside the box resulted in a yellow card and set up a dangerous free kick from the top right corner. The ensuing strike from Lycoming's Ella Magee went bar down and in to take the 2-1 advantage.

King's responded swiftly, leveling the match at 33:40 when Victoria Hanna flew into the box and headed in a corner from Madison Jellema—her first goal of the season, and Jellema's first assist.

No less than a minute later, Lycoming found a seam in the Monarchs' backline at 34:31, advanced on goal, and slipped a shot past a diving Monard to reclaim a 3-2 lead.

In the 39th minute, Hanna was issued a red card after getting tangled with a Lycoming attacker on a through ball attempt, forcing the Monarchs to play the remainder of the match with ten players. The final minutes of the half saw little change, as Lycoming maintained their 3-2 lead heading into the break.

Just two minutes into the second half, the Warriors capitalized on the 11-10 player advantage with a shot from the top left corner of the box that snuck in under the crossbar to pull ahead 4-2.

Despite being down a player, the Monarchs showed their resilience in the 70th, cutting the Lycoming lead in half. On the counter, Jenna Waldbillig was fouled by the Warriors keeper in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Waldbillig's shot was perfectly placed in the top left corner, bringing the tally to 4-3.

King's could not find the equalizer in the final 20 minutes as Lycoming held on for the 4-3 win.

Waldbillig led the Monarchs on Wednesday with a her third goal of the season and five shots with two on goal. Parker and Hanna each found the back of the net for the first time this season along with Jellema and Juarez collecting their first assists.

Despite allowing four goals, Monard had a standout performance with 10 saves and six in the second half as the Warriors were held scoreless for the final 43:13 of play.

Women's soccer returns to McCarthy Stadium on Saturday, September 20 to celebrate Senior Day as the Monarchs host Wilson College at 5:00 PM.
