SCRANTON, PA (September 16, 2025)— The King's College field hockey team dropped a non-conference matchup to the University of Scranton on Tuesday night by a score of 6-0. With the result, the Monarchs drop to 1-5 on the season while the Royals improve to 5-2.
Scranton opened the scoring at the 3:27 mark on their fourth shot of the quarter from Maggie Keys that hit the back of the cage and put the Royals up 1-0.
The Royals knocked in a pair of goals on nine shots in the second quarter to head into the halftime break with a 3-0 lead. King's goalkeeper
Elizabeth Samuel hauled in five saves in a busy first half.
The lone shot of the game for the Monarchs was taken by
Sophia Pettinelli at 12:15 in the first that sailed just left of the cage.
At 34:13 in the third, Scranton extended their lead to four on a shot from Olivia Dougherty that snuck just past Samuel.
While King's attempted to generate some offensive opportunities, Scranton's defense held strong and continuously kept possession in their half of the field.
The Royals added another two goals in the fourth quarter and held the Monarchs shotless in the second half as they closed out the 6-0 win.
Maggie Keys and Olivia Dougherty led Scranton in scoring, each with five points on two goals and an assist as Annie Shaw and Annie Cole each had a goal.
Samuel finished the night in cage with 11 saves in her second start, nearly tripling her four saves in their previous matchup against Penn St. Harrisburg.
