WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 3, 2025) -- The King's College football team opens under the lights tomorrow night in the 29th annual Mayor's Cup game. Kick off is set for 7:00 pm. at Schmidt Stadium against cross-town rival Wilkes University. The Monarchs are coming off a historic season, going 10-2 overall, winning the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) title, and winning the opening round of the NCAA Division III Football Championships at home against Ursinus. The Colonels finished 2024 7-4 overall and fell to Washington and Lee in the Cape Henry Bowl as part of the Chesapeake Challenge Bowl Series.

Parking: Lots located at Schmidt Stadium are currently sold out. Fans are able to park on the campus of King's College in the Holy Cross lot and utilize the shuttle service. Shuttle service begins at 6:00 p.m. and will run throughout the duration of the game and at the conclusion of the game.
Alumni Tailgate: The Office of Institutional Advancement has sponsored an alumni tailgate at Schmidt Stadium that will begin at 5:00 p.m. We encourage fans and alumni to join and enjoy the pre-game festivities ahead of the Mayor's Cup contest.

The Coaches: Mike Cebrosky enters his second season as the head coach of the Monarchs with Thursday's contest. Cebrosky led the team to through their historic 2024 season, featuring a 10-2 overall record, perfect 9-0 mark in the MAC, the first outright MAC title in program history, and berth to the NCAA Division III Football Championships. He was named MAC Coach of the Year while also coaching a program-best 20 All-MAC honorees, highlighted by two-time MAC Offensive Player of the Year
Russell Minor-Shaw, six D3football.com All-Region players, and
Zach Barber as a D3football.com All-American. David Biever is in his 12th season with Wilkes and second as the head coach. He posts a 7-4 overall record, including 5-1 mark in the Landmark, and earned a spot in the team's second-consecutive Chesapeake Bowl Challenge. Biever coached 19 All-Landmark Conference honorees and his first All-American in Donell Mackey-Woodson.
Looking at Wilkes: The Colonels look to replace 14 of their All-Landmark Conference recipients from 2024. The roster is young but talented and will also feature a new starting quarterback with kickoff on Thursday. Wilkes offense averaged 38 points per game on 412.9 yards of total offense per contest, including 202.5 yards on the ground and 210.36 yards in the passing game. The defense gave up 27.45 points per game and 386.0 yards of total offense, limiting teams to 139.4 rushing yards per contest, and were impressive on third down as they held teams to just a 39.35 conversion percentage.
Travel Gear: For their first appearance in 2025, the Monarchs will wear their white road uniforms with gold pants and traditional gold helmets.
Single Digit Tough: The Monarchs award single digits, and now double digits to offensive linemen, based on merit and leadership and are retained throughout their time at King's. The 2025 roster returned two single-digit members from 2024 in
Tyler Carey and Brenann Robinson and have added two so far in 2025. The Monarchs now have four Single Digit Tough players:

Captains this Weekend: King's will send out their single-digit tough members as captains at the coin flip in week one of the 2025 season. For the offense, the Monarchs will send out

A Look at the Monarchs:
- The Monarchs are on a three-year stretch of post-game appearances and record-breaking numbers and look to continue the trend in 2025.
- King's looks to replace 16 All-MAC honorees from 2025 while returning First Team running back Brennan Robinson, Second Team running back Jayon Hailey and special teamer Jacob Mullery, and Honorable Mention offensive lineman Kaleb Beers. They'll also replace all six D3football.com All Region recipients and D3football.com All-American Zach Barber.
- This week's two deep features 12 seniors, including graduate student wide receiver Tyler Carey who earned All-MAC Seocnd Team and D3football.com All Region Second Team recognition in 2022.
- The staff stands at 15 members, including six alumni in Ben Bakanas, Will Cameron, Mike Karycinski, Sean Lavine, Brendan Mozeleski, and EJ Schreiner.
- King's was tied for first in the MAC Preseason Poll with Delaware Valley among the 10 conference schools. Wilkes was slated to finish third in the Landmark Preseason Poll among their seven programs.
- In 2024, King's averaged 30.83 points on 387.9 yards of total offense per game while limiting teams to 21.50 points on 337.1 yards per contest. The run game averaged 212.8 yards per contest, while the defense held teams to 141.1 yards per game. Additionally, the Monarchs went 37-for-47 in the red zone while allowing just 24 touchdowns on 42 defensive trips.
- Brennan Robinson returns as the rushing leader from 2024, totaling 83.70 yards per game with four touchdowns, while Jayon Hailey added 63.0 yards per contest with seven scores. Kival Clarke leads the returning receivers after averaging 30.17 yards per game with six touchdown grabs.
- Michael Richino is the top returner for the defense after totaling 47.0 tackles, including 3.0 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, seven quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, and a pass break up, while Matt Blakmore added 35.0 tackles and 3.0 tackles for loss.
Up Next: The Monarchs will be on the road for the second straight contest as they begin their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) slate next weekend. King's will travel to Delaware Valley University on Saturday, September 13 for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff in the battle of MAC powerhouses.
