WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 6, 2025) — In their home opener, the King's College women's soccer team fought hard but came up short in a 2-1 loss to Widener University on Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs (1-3-0) looked to build on their first win of the season but couldn't complete the comeback, while the Pride (2-1-0) picked up their second victory.
Widener opened the scoring in the 18th minute on a breakaway shot from the 20 that ran past an extended
Courtney Monard, taking a 1-0 lead. King's responded with multiple scoring chances in the first half.
Jenna Waldbillig had an early attempt at the 7:29 mark, while
Mackenzie Huffer and
Madison Jellema also took shots in the opening half.
The Pride wasted no time in the second half, quickly capitalizing on a low-driven cross that slipped past Monard and nestled just under the crossbar, extending their lead to 2-0.
King's found the back of the net at 60:13 when
Isabella Pacia capitalized on a wonderful free kick from
Taryn Conover, placing the ball to Pacia just in front of the net from the 40. The goal is the first of Pacia's collegiate career and the second assist in Conover's career as a Monarch.
Pacia continued to be a key offensive threat, firing several shots and creating pressure late in the match. This including a shot off a cross at the 88:32 mark that sailed just high and left of the mark.
Pacia and Waldbillig led the Monarchs in shots on Saturday, taking four and three respectively. Conover and
Olivia Bauer took the other two shots on goal for King's.
King's women's soccer will look to rebound as they head into their next match on the road against Wilkes University on Wednesday, September 10th at 7:00 p.m.
