WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 14, 2026) — The King's College women's basketball team showed resilience down the stretch on Wednesday night, mounting a late comeback attempt before ultimately falling to Stevens Institute of Technology, 58–53, in a MAC Freedom matchup inside McGrane Gymnasium.
The Monarchs matched Stevens stride for stride in the opening quarter, ending the first period tied at 13–13. Stevens began to create separation in the second quarter, holding King's to seven points while building a 29–20 lead at halftime. The Ducks continued to chip away in the third, outscoring the Monarchs 17–13 to extend the margin heading into the final 10 minutes.
King's saved its best stretch for the fourth quarter, outscoring Stevens 20–12 as the Monarchs ramped up defensive pressure and found a rhythm offensively. A late run cut the deficit to a single possession in the final minute, but Stevens answered at the free-throw line to hold on for the five-point victory.
Cadie Lewis led King's with 13 points, six assists, six rebounds, and six steals, while Gianna Dickson added 10 points and a steal. Lauren Casey contributed nine points, and seven rebounds, and Claire Aufiero anchored the glass with a team-high 13 rebounds to go along with seven points. Irelynd Long chipped in six points and three steals, and Taylor Hough grabbed five steals off the bench.
As a team, King's shot 32.3 percent from the field and forced 21 turnovers, turning them into 20 points. The Monarchs also held advantages in fast-break points and second-chance opportunities, but Stevens' bench production proved decisive on the night.
The Monarchs (8–6, 1–2 MAC Freedom) will look to build on the strong finish as they continue conference when they travel to Delaware Valley on Saturday, January 17.
