Men's Basketball Outdueled at Home Against Misericordia

WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 21, 2026)— The King's College men's basketball team fell in home MAC Freedom action at McGrane Gymnasium on Wednesday night, 84-64, to Misericordia University. The loss moves the Monarchs to 4-12 overall and 1-4 in MAC Freedom play while the Cougars improve to 12-4 and 4-1 in the conference.

With the Monarchs rolling out a taller starting lineup, Devin Kimmick capitalized by working off the ball, knocking down three triples and scoring nine of King's first 11 points as the Monarchs jumped out to an 11–7 lead at the 14:48 mark.

The Cougars responded with an 18-11 run over the next seven minutes, taking the lead back and extending to 25-19 at 7:27.

The ensuing four minutes saw minimal offensive output for either team as a tough finish from Ray Gooley cut the Misericordia led to eight with 3:44 to play in the first half.

The Monarchs continued to hunker down on defense, forcing difficult shots for the Cougars as a pair of layups from Ben Rodner-Tims and a successful post move from Kimmick brought the deficit to four. A deep two made at the buzzer by the Cougars sent the game to half with Misericordia up six.

Kimmick led the Monarchs with 11 points and six boards in the first half as Rodner-Tims contributed four points, six rebounds and three assists.

Misericordia came out of the locker room with strong shooting and solid defense, kicking off the second stanza with a 13-6 stretch and pulling out to a 13-point lead with just over 14 minutes to play in the game.

As King's found baskets on the offensive end with Ben Malley and Matt Christian each hitting a pair of threes, the Cougars continuously answered with tough shots of their own, keeping their 13-point advantage as the game went under five minutes to play.

Despite the Monarchs shooting 46% from deep in the second half, Misericordia took advantage of five steals, turning them into 13 points on the other end as the Cougars held on for an 84-64 victory over King's.

Ben Rodner-Tims led the Monarchs with 14 points while grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds and adding four assists. Devin Kimmick and Matt Christian each scored 11 points, connecting on three three-pointers apiece, with Kimmick also contributing three assists. Ben Malley added 11 points off the bench, knocking down three triples of his own. Darren Yost and Sean Forrest chipped in six points each, while Ray Gooley finished with four points, four rebounds, and two blocks.

King's men's basketball returns to the court on Saturday as the Monarchs host the Knights of Arcadia University in McGrane gymnasium at 3:00 p.m.
