Men's Volleyball Falls to Ramapo in Road Matchup

MAHWAH, NJ (January 24, 2026)-- The King's College men's volleyball team fell on the road to Ramapo on Saturday by a set score of 3-0. The Monarchs now stand at 1-3 overall while the Roadrunners improve to 2-1 on the early season.

King's opened the first set with a quick exchange as Alex Martellacci delivered an early kill and Antonio Tavarez followed with a service ace, while Logan Place added another kill and Ben Maskiell steadied the offense with a well‑placed ace of his own. The Monarchs continued to trade points with Ramapo through the middle of the frame, with Tavarez and Martellacci scoring consistently and Mason Lesher and Alex Schoch contributing key swings to keep the set within reach. Despite a late push that included kills from Tavarez and Place, a few untimely errors proved costly, and Ramapo claimed the opening set, 25-21, in a competitive battle.

The Monarchs battled through a back‑and‑forth second set, opening with a pair of early points before Place and Tavarez traded kills to keep the Monarchs within striking distance. Maskiell added a service ace and a kill midway through the frame, while Martellacci and Lesher chipped in timely swings to keep the score close in the mid‑teens. Despite some attack and service errors, King's stayed level with Ramapo through extended rallies, with Tavarez and Place continuing to produce late. However, a final push by the hosts proved decisive, and the Monarchs dropped the set, 25-22.

King's began the third set with a strong kill from Brian Weaver to take the first point, but Ramapo quickly surged to a 5-2 lead. The Monarchs fought back as Tavarez, Maskiell, Place, Martellacci, and Schoch all contributed key kills and service aces, keeping the set close. Taylor Brady, Luke Hammond, and Greg Bousquet added points through kills and strategic serves, while a few attack errors and service miscues slowed the Monarchs' momentum. Despite a late rally with critical points from Tavarez, Maskiell, and Place, King's was unable to close the gap, and a final service error gave Ramapo the 25-19 set win.

King's saw strong contributions across the board in the match. Logan Place led the team with 11 kills, adding a block and an ace, while Greg Bousquet recorded eight kills, a block, and an assist. Ben Maskiell facilitated the offense with 22 assists, contributed three kills, two aces, and added nine digs to anchor the defense. Antonio Tavarez added an ace and a block, and Alex Martellacci contributed one assist. Defensively, Aiden Glasgow and Brady Taylor combined for 11 digs.

The Monarchs return to the court on January 31 as the team heads to Chambersburg, PA for a tri-match featuring Mount Aloysius College and Wilson College starting at 2:00 p.m.
