CHAMBERSBURG, PA (January 31, 2026) -- The King's College men's volleyball team pulled a split out of Saturday's tri-match at Wilson College, besting Mount Aloysius in straight sets before falling to the hosts in a tough battle, 3-0. The split moves the Monarchs overall record to 2-4.
Match 1: King's 3, Mount Aloysius 0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-20)
After a back-and-fourth beginning to the first set, King's rattled off five unanswered points on kills by

Logan Place. The Monarchs protected their advantage throughout the remainder of the set, never letting the lead dip below five points. Up 13-7, King's put up another strong 4-0 run behind a pair of kills by Place along with a kill by
Alex Schoch.
Brian Weaver added two kills late in the frame as the Monarchs wrapped up set 1, 25-18.
Mount Aloysius ramped up the pressure in the second set; keeping themselves within at least a point of King's all throughout. The Mounties and Monarchs found themselves tied up 12 times in the second frame before a kill by
Antonio Tavarez put King's ahead 18-16. The Monarchs never looked back, using kills by Place and Martellacci to take the set by a score of 25-20.
Searching for a sweep, King's immediately put their foot on the gas to start the third set with four consecutive kills. The Monarchs continued to build their lead before a 3-0 run briefly halted momentum and brought the Mounties within three points. A trio of Mount Aloysius attacking errors combined with two Martellacci kills allowed King's to double up the Mounties, 14-7. A late push by Mount Aloysius was extinguished when Martellacci hammered down a final kill to put an exclamation point on the 25-20 set win and a 3-0 sweep for the Monarchs.
As a team, King's finished with 41 kills, 38 assists, three aces and 40 digs. Place led the way with 11 kills, two aces and a solo block for a team-high 14 points. Maskiell racked up 32 assists while
Brady Taylor recorded a match-high 10 digs.
Match 2: Wilson 3, King's 0 (18-25, 19-25, 13-25)
Wilson came out of the gates strong and quickly took a 7-3 lead to start the first set. Kills by Maskiell and Place along with a pair of timely errors gave the Monarchs some life as the visitors pulled themselves within three points of tying the frame. Despite consecutive kills by Martellacci and Bousquet later in the set, the Phoenix had an answer for every King's surge and closed out an opening 25-18 victory.
The Phoenix built a 5-1 cushion in the early stages of the second set before two attack errors and another kill by Place allowed the Monarchs to claw their way back to within a point. King's continued to keep pace with Wilson and eventually pulled even at 11-11 after Tavarez and Place both put away attacks. A trio of kills by Place, Bousquet and Schoch gave the visitors a brief two-point advantage before the Phoenix stormed back to claim nine of the last 12 points and win the set, 25-19.
The Monarchs found themselves in a 6-1 hole as Wilson jumped out to another strong start in the third set. With their backs against the wall and looking to extend the match, King's continued to battle in search of a breakthrough. Kills by Bousquet, Tavarez and Martellacci kept the visitors within striking distance, however the Phoenix ultimately secured the 3-0 sweep with a 25-13 result in the final frame.
The Monarchs ended their second appearance of the afternoon with 26 kills, 25 assists and 25 digs. Place once again paced all King's hitters with eight kills on 24 attacks. Martellacci led the defensive corps with eight digs while
Logan Aikens tallied the lone block of the match for the Monarchs.
King's returns home to the McGrane Gymnasium on February 7, hosting Hunter College and St. Joseph's University Brooklyn in a non-conference tri-match. First serve against Hunter gets underway at noon. The night cap with the Bears is slated to start at 4:00 p.m.
