WILKES-BARRE,PA (January 31, 2026)—The King's College men's basketball team completed the season sweep of FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon with a narrow 74-73 victory in McGrane Gymnasium. The win erases a five-game skid for the Monarchs as they improve to 5-14 overall and 2-6 in MAC Freedom play while the Devils now stand at 6-13 overall and 1-7 in conference.
King's jumped out to an early advantage behind strong defensive pressure and efficient offense. After an opening bucket from FDU-Florham,
Sean Forrest knocked down a three at the 19:23 mark to give the Monarchs their first lead, and baskets from
Cole Walker and
Devin Kimmick pushed the advantage to 7–2. The teams traded buckets through the opening media timeout as King's found defensive success with three early turnovers.
The Monarchs maintained control midway through the half, sparked by
Ben Rodner-Tims attacking the paint and
Jaden Hall connecting from beyond the arc. A Hall triple at 10:20 extended King's lead to 21–17, and
Ben Malley added energy off the bench, including a tip-in and a three that helped stretch the margin to seven late in the half.
FDU-Florham closed the opening stanza with a late surge, using back-to-back three-pointers to grab a five-point edge. A
Ray Gooley layup in the final seconds cut the deficit to three, sending King's into the locker room trailing 39–36. Malley led the Monarchs in the first half with ten points while Rodner-Tims added eight and Hall tacked on six.
The second half opened with a back-and-forth stretch as the Monarchs quickly erased the deficit. Rodner-Tims scored five points over the first three minutes of the half, with a Forrest layup giving King's a brief lead before the Devils answered with a pullup to tie the game at 43 apiece with 17 minutes to play. Neither team led by more than two possessions the entire second half as the contest featured frequent lead changes and ties.
Hall continued to provide a spark from deep, knocking down multiple three-pointers during a critical 9-5 stretch that pushed King's in front 64–61 with under eight minutes to play. The Monarchs leaned on defensive stops and timely rebounding from Walker and Hall to maintain the advantage.
FDU-Florham cut the lead to one multiple times in the final minutes, but the Monarchs answered at the free-throw line. Hall converted a pair with 2:59 remaining, and
Matt Christian buried a clutch three at the 1:04 mark to give King's a four-point cushion.
After the Devils trimmed the margin to one in the final seconds, Walker extended the lead with a free throw, and King's defensive stand on the final possession secured the 74–73 conference victory.
Free throws and bench points proved crucial in Saturday's MAC Freedom showdown as the Monarchs were able to cash in on 14 free throws on 21 attempts to FDU's four on five attempts while outscoring the Devils' bench 40-17.
Hall led all scorers with 21 points, knocking down five three-pointers while adding seven rebounds. Rodner-Tims finished with 17 points, four assists, and three steals while Walker came away with five points and eight boards. Malley chipped in 10 points off the bench, and Christian added nine points, all from beyond the arc.
King's returns to McGrane Gymnasium on Wednesday, February 4, as the Monarchs host Stevens Institute of Technology in a MAC Freedom contest starting at 7:00 p.m.
