Men’s Basketball Battles Back Behind Rodner-Tims Career High to Defeat DeSales in Double Overtime

WILKES-BARRE, PA(February 17, 2026)— The King's College men's basketball team took home a conference win in dramatic fashion on Tuesday evening, taking down DeSales by a score of 98-97 in double-overtime. The overtime game is the fifth of the season for the Monarchs as they improve to 7-17 overall and 4-9 in MAC Freedom play while the Bulldogs drop to 14-10 and 9-4 in the conference.

Both teams traded baskets in the early minutes of the game as the Monarchs got their offense going by sharing the wealth. King's got baskets from Devin Kimmick, Cole Walker, Sean Forrest while a Ben Rodner-Tims and-one gave the Monarchs a 15-14 lead with just under 15 minutes to play in the opening half.

An 18–7 burst over the next six minutes pushed the Bulldogs ahead 32–21 at the 8:56 mark, before a Kimmick jumper on the following possession cut it back to a nine‑point game.

Over the last nine minutes of the half, both teams hunkered down on the defensive end, forcing tough shots and forcing multiple turnovers. A Kimmick three from Ben Malley at the first half buzzer brought cut the DeSales lead to 10 heading into the locker room.

Rodner-Tims powered the Monarchs early, posting 11 points on an efficient 4‑of‑5 effort that included two threes. Hall added nine points and Kimmick finished the half with eight. Forrest kept the offense moving as well, dishing out five assists and pulling down four rebounds.

The Monarchs opened the second half with renewed energy, stringing together stops on the defensive end and hitting five of their first nine shots. A 15–9 surge brought them right back into the game, capped by a Forrest three at the 13:21 mark that trimmed the Bulldog lead to just four.

Following a 9-3 DeSales run that put the Bulldogs up by 13 at 9:53, King's answered with a quick 5-0 run on baskets from Walker and Malley that brought the lead to eight at 64-56 with just under nine minutes remaining.

As the Monarchs and Bulldogs went bucket for bucket over the next four minutes, King's sparked an 8-4 run on two deep three's from Rodner-Tims and Forrest. A contested layup from Hall brought the Monarchs within a possession at 73-70 with 3:22 to play.

After an offensive rebound on a 1-of-2 trip to the line for DeSales, King's came up with a massive stop and rebound while drawing a foul in the process. The foul sent Malley to the line as his two converted free throws knotted tied the game at 76 apiece.

Soon after a converted and-one from the Bulldogs with 43 seconds left put DeSales up three, the Monarchs found Sean Forrest with an open look from the top of the key to provide the equalizer at 79-79 with 29 seconds remaining. King's came up with the stop on the final possession of regulation, sending the contest to overtime.

The Monarchs threw the first punch of the overtime period, coming away with a steal and score on a Rodner-Tims putback layup. Following another stop in the defensive end, Walker found Rodner-Tims for a layup under the basket to put King's up four with 3:12 left in overtime.

DeSales responded to the deficit with a 7-0 run to regain the lead at 86-83 with 1:19 to play. A successful trip to the free throw line from Hall brought the game back to a one-point difference before a DeSales bucket brought the lead back to three with 40 seconds on the clock.

With their backs against the wall, King's found another huge three, this time from Matt Christian, to tie the game at 89 in the final thirty seconds. The Monarchs once again came up with a stop on the defensive end, forcing a tough fadeaway that missed the mark and sending the game into a second overtime.

Trailing by two after a basket from DeSales, Ray Gooley found Hall open in the corner, who connected on the triple to put King's up one, 91-90, with 3:30 left in the second overtime. Following another Bulldog bucket, Hall split a pair at the line to tie the game at 92.

Rodner-Tims gave the Monarchs a two‑point edge with two free throws at 1:06, then added two more after a defensive stop to extend the lead to four. DeSales answered immediately, pulling back within two with 24 seconds left.

Rodner-Tims posted a career-high 30 points on 10-of-15 shooting, going 3-of-4 from three and 7-of-7 at the line while adding eight rebounds and four assists. Hall added 19 points and five boards off the bench, and Forrest finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two blocks.

Walker recorded a season-high 13 points with three rebounds and two steals, while Kimmick chipped in eight points and four boards. Christian scored eight off the bench, and Malley added seven as the Monarchs shot 47.1 percent from the floor, 50.0 percent from three, and 80.8 percent at the line in the 98-point effort.
