Baseball Drops Series Finale to DeSales

WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 22, 2026) -- The King's College baseball team returned home to Lipo Field to wrap up its three‑game Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom series with DeSales University Sunday afternoon, falling 18-5 to the Bulldogs. The Monarchs move to 3-10 on the season and drop to 0-6 in conference play. DeSales improves to 11-7 and remains a perfect 5-0 in MAC matchups.

The visitors struck first with two runs in the top of the opening inning, but the Monarchs responded immediately to even the score. Troy Neff led off the bottom of the first with a single, Mikey Timinski followed with a walk, and Owen Kosar laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Jason Cunha then delivered a two‑run single up the middle to bring Neff and Timinski home and knot the game at 2-2.

The Bulldogs regained control in the second with a five‑run inning to go up 7-2, but King's answered again in the home half. After Brayden Schoonmaker and Miles Carey rattled off back‑to‑back singles, Neff singled to load the bases, for Timinski. A sacrifice fly to right field brought Schoonmaker home and cut the deficit to 7-3.

DeSales added runs in each of the next three innings to stretch the lead to 11-3, while King's continued to look for openings. In the fifth, Cunha reached on an error and Jaiden Wanamaker followed with a single before Kevin Kullman lined an RBI single to right to make it 15-4. The Monarchs added their final run in the sixth when Kosar doubled to left to drive Timinski in for his second run of the afternoon, trimming the score to 15-5.

King's continued to put pressure on late. Carey reached again in the eighth with a walk, and Neff followed with another free pass to bring the tying run to the on‑deck circle before DeSales escaped the frame. The Bulldogs closed the scoring with three runs in the ninth to set the 18-5 final.
Neff finished 2-for-3 with two walks and a stolen base, while Carey was a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk. Cunha drove in two runs, Kosar added an RBI double and a sacrifice bunt, Timinski recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly, and Kullman chipped in an RBI single as King's totaled 10 hits.

Christian Galimi started on the mound before the Monarchs turned to Alexander Breitfeller, Jacob DiCicco, Owen Kliesh, Dusty Shaver, and Nelson Martinez out of the bullpen. The King's defense flashed the leather in the second inning when Kosar flipped a ground ball to Carey at short before Carey fired to Wanamaker at first, completing the 4-6-3 double play. Shaver also worked a clean 1‑2‑3 seventh inning to avoid further damage.

Up next, the Monarchs hit the road to take on Marywood University on Tuesday, March 24. First pitch against the Pacers is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
