SCRANTON, PA (March 24, 2026) -- Despite a strong start to Tuesday afternoon's road nonconference matchup at Marywood, the King's College baseball team but could not slow the host's midgame surge, falling to the Pacers 19-6. The Monarchs move to 3-11 on the season, while the Pacers improve to 10-6.
Aydan Davis got the start on the mound for the Monarchs and worked through a scoreless first inning. After a hit batter to lead off the frame, Davis cleanly fielded a comebacker before inducing a pair of fly balls to strand the runner and keep the game level through one.
King's struck first in the top of the second, scoring twice without the benefit of a hit.
Jordan Andino was hit by a pitch and
Nathan Gilson worked a walk before a wild pitch and a passed ball allowed both runners to score, giving the Monarchs an early 2-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the second, Davis set the side down in order with a pair of groundouts before freezing the final hitter looking to close the inning. The Monarchs followed with another clean defensive frame in the third, as Davis struck out the leadoff batter swinging, worked around a single and a stolen base, and recorded the final two outs to preserve the shutout through three.
King's added to the lead in the fourth as
Brendan Kopec opened the inning with a towering solo home run to left field, extending King's edge to 3-0.
The Pacers tied the game with a three‑run inning in the bottom of the fourth, but King's responded right away in the top of the fifth as
Miles Carey came around to score on a
Jason Cunha RBI single. Marywood then pulled away later in the inning with a seven‑run frame to regain control.
King's continued to push in the sixth.
Kevin Kullman ripped a two-out double to the right field gap and came around to score along with
Zach Jenkins on a Carey double to left-center, pulling the visitors within four runs of a tie.Marywood, however, countered with nine runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Carey led the offense by finishing with a double, two RBI, a walk and a run scored. Cunha drove in a run, Kopec homered, and Kullman added an extra-base hit and a run as King's totaled four hits and four walks. Davis made the start on the mound before King's turned to a string of relievers out of the bullpen.
The Monarchs return to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play on Friday, traveling to Arcadia University for the first leg of a three-game set. First pitch against the Knights is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
