Reading, PA (March 4, 2026) — The King's College men's lacrosse team battled in a back-and-forth thriller Wednesday night but ultimately fell in overtime, 16-15, at Alvernia.
The Monarchs showed resilience throughout, erasing multiple deficits and briefly taking a fourth-quarter lead before the Golden Wolves secured the OT winner.
Alvernia struck first and built a 5-3 lead after the opening quarter, but King's answered with a strong second frame. Goals from Ryan Lynch and Brenden Lynch helped the Monarchs keep pace, and Logan Gallagher's late tally trimmed the deficit to 9-7 at halftime.
The third quarter featured a flurry of momentum swings. King's used a five-goal period to surge in front for the first time, highlighted by scores from Connor Walsh and EJ Schreiner. The teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 12-12.
The final period continued the back-and-forth theme. Schreiner tied the game early in the quarter, and after Alvernia regained the lead, Ryan Lynch evened the score at 14-14. Brenden Lynch then gave the Monarchs a 15-14 advantage with 6:15 remaining.
However, the Golden Wolves responded with the equalizer at the 2:24 mark to force overtime. In the extra session, Alvernia capitalized on its opportunity, netting the game-winner at 3:14 to seal the 16-15 decision.
Brenden Lynch led the Monarch offense with four goals, while EJ Schreiner, Ryan Lynch, and Logan Gallagher each added three goals. Schreiner and Gallagher also recorded two assists apiece. After today's performance, Ryan Lynch earned his 100 career point for the Moanrchs.
In goal, Ryan Rickards made 14 saves for the Monarchs.
King's converted efficiently on extra-man opportunities, finishing 4-for-6, but Alvernia controlled possession behind a 27-7 edge in faceoffs and a 52-25 advantage in ground balls.
The Monarchs will look to bounce back in their next contest when they take on Tompkins Cortland Community College on Saturday, March 7 at 12:00 p.m..
