Maskiell Breaks Service Ace Record as Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Penn State Schuylkill

WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 4, 2026) -- Service aces ran wild as Ben Maskiell broke the three-set match record with 11 aces, leading the King's College men's volleyball team to a 3-0 rout of Penn State Schuylkill in their nonconference matchup, Wednesday night at the McGrane Gymnasium. The team combined for 23 total aces, tying the program record for three-set matches as well. The win boosts Monarchs' overall record to 7-10. Across the net, the Lions fall to 2-6 on the season.

After an initial service error by the visitors returned the ball to King's, Maskiell set the tone immediately by rattling off five consecutive service aces. The senior setter punctuated the run by setting up a Logan Place kill, which put the Monarchs in control of a 7-0 advantage.

The middle rotation stayed tilted toward the Monarchs. Logan Aikens stepped in and stacked three consecutive aces to stretch the margin to 18-2, then located Brian Weaver for a clean conversion. Down the stretch, Brady Taylor entered and fed Weaver for back‑to‑back points. Weaver followed with an ace to reach set point, then a forced attack error closed the opener, 25-5.

Set two began with quick trades before King's seized control again. Maskiell sandwiched a Bousquet kill with a trio of aces to make it 5-2, then found Alex Schoch for another finish.

Depth extended the lead, as Taylor delivered a service ace and set up Nathan Yelinko for a kill, while a stuff at the net by Aikens and Yelinko and another Yelinko kill pushed the cushion to 16-7. Aikens, Maskiell and Bousquet added late points to extend the advantage.

King's finished the second frame with a 5-0 run. Luke Hammond scored on set point and Bousquet put the finishing touches on the 25-10 set victory with another kill - both on sets from Maskiell.

The third set opened much like the first; dominant serving. Maskiell logged an early ace, forced a handling error, and set Place for a finish in a 4-0 burst before adding another ace to widen the gap. Schoch and Yelinko chipped in during the next rotation, and Place drew another error to extend the gap, which now stood at 8-2.

Mid‑set, Taylor's serve produced an ace and steady first contacts, with Yelinko and Aikens converting to keep the scoreboard moving. Hammond checked in and scored as the Monarchs layered on a Schoch ace and an Antonio Tavarez finish to reach 24-12.

Two milestones highlighted the close. Maskiell's 11th ace of the night established a new three‑set match individual record for the program, breaking his own previous record of 10 set back in 2023. Then, with the score at 22-11, Schoch delivered King's 23rd collective ace of the night, tying the program's record for aces in a three‑set match previously established against Bryn Athyn in 2023. Yelinko put away the last ball on a feed from Maskiell to seal it, 25-12.

Maskiell led the way with a historic 11-ace tally and 20 assists. Yelinko led all Monarch hitters with seven kills. Place and Aikens both recorded three aces while Taylor added a pair aces and dished out seven assists.

Defensively, King's was paced by three digs from Weaver and Schoch. Aikens and Yelinko combined on the lone block of the evening.

King's returns to action on Friday, traveling to Arcadia University for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) battle. First serve against the Knights is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
