Davis Complete Game, Wanamaker Milestone Cap Monarchs' Win Over Cairn

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 13, 2026) -- The King's College baseball team earned a nonconference victory on Monday afternoon at Lipo Field, defeating Cairn University 6-1 behind a complete‑game effort from Aydan Davis and a milestone performance at the plate from Jaiden Wanamaker, who recorded the 100th hit of his collegiate career. The Monarchs improve to 6-19 on the season while the Highlanders fall to 1-27.

Davis established the tone immediately in the top of the first. After allowing a leadoff single, Davis picked the runner off at second base, initiating a rundown that ended with Owen Kosar applying the tag on the basepath to erase the early threat. Davis then induced a groundout back to himself, working out of the inning unscathed.

Cairn threatened again in the top of the second, but King's defense answered. With a runner aboard, Jaiden Wanamaker extended his glove at first base to snare a ball headed for right field for the second out of the inning, cutting off a potential base runner. King's then broke the scoreless tie in the bottom half of the frame as three consecutive walks to Blaze Graham, Joshua Quinones, and Tate Pentasuglio loaded the bases. Troy Neff was then hit by a pitch, forcing home Graham and giving the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.

The Monarchs added to the advantage in the bottom of the third during a milestone moment. With runners on, Wanamaker ripped a stand-up RBI double off the left-field wall, scoring Kosar and marking the 100th hit of his collegiate career. On the ensuing at-bat, Jenkins lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Kopec and push the King's lead to 3-0.

Cairn scratched across an unearned run in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-1, but King's responded immediately in the bottom of the frame. Neff reached base and later scored on an RBI single by Kosar, restoring the three-run cushion at 4-1.

Davis continued to work efficiently as the game progressed, and the Monarchs' defense remained sharp behind him. In the top of the fifth, Pentasuglio charged hard from left field and made a spectacular diving catch to end the inning and prevent a potential rally. Two frames later, Graham showcased quick reflexes at the hot corner, snaring a screaming line drive to end the top of the seventh.

Cairn threatened in the top of the eighth, putting two runners on, but Davis worked out of the jam by picking a runner off at second base to end the frame and halt the momentum. King's then added insurance in the bottom half of the inning as Neff scored on an RBI single by Kosar before Kopec doubled and later came home on a balk, extending the lead to 6-1.

Davis closed out the complete game in the ninth, finishing with nine innings pitched while allowing one unearned run on seven hits, striking out two. The Monarchs erased multiple Cairn threats on the bases, as Davis recorded pickoffs in the first and eighth innings, while catcher Zach Jenkins threw out runners attempting to steal in the third and fifth innings. King's also turned two double plays and made several momentum-stopping plays in the field to support the complete-game performance.

Offensively, Kosar finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Wanamaker delivered the milestone RBI double. Neff crossed the plate twice, drove in a run, and was hit by pitches three times, consistently putting pressure on the Highlanders' pitching staff. Jenkins added a sacrifice fly as the Monarchs ended the day with 10 hits.

King's returns to action on Thursday, April 16, traveling to Hoboken, NJ for the first installment of a three-game Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom set with the Stevens Institute of Technology. First pitch against the Ducks is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
