WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 19, 2026) - he King's College women's volleyball team picked up a pair of victories on Saturday, defeating Rutgers-Newark and Wilson in a home tri-match inside McGrane Gymnasium. The Monarchs opened the day with a 3-1 win over Rutgers-Newark before taking down Wilson by the same score to improve to 8-2 on the season.
Weronika Malinowski led King's in the opener with 14 kills, 21 digs and five service aces, while Antonia Leary added eight kills on a .300 hitting percentage. Hannah Swinsburg and Lindsay Arezina each contributed six kills. Ariela Towsey handed out a team-high 23 assists and added 18 digs, while Riley McArdle anchored the defense with 28 digs as the Monarchs totaled 100 digs in the match.
After Rutgers-Newark jumped ahead 5-2 in the opening set, King's battled back and used a 7-0 run to turn an 8-7 deficit into a 14-8 advantage. The Scarlet Raiders pulled within five late, but the Monarchs closed out a 25-19 victory to take the early lead.
King's carried the momentum into a tightly contested second set. The Monarchs built a 16-9 advantage before Rutgers-Newark rallied to even the score at 24-24. Arezina answered with a kill to put King's back in front before Swinsburg finished the frame with another kill for a 26-24 win. The Scarlet Raiders responded with a 25-19 victory in the third, but King's answered in the fourth to secure the match with a 25-21 win.
The Monarchs returned to the court later in the afternoon and produced one of their strongest offensive performances of the season against Wilson. King's finished with 54 kills and hit .227 as a team, led by Malinowski with 13 kills and 27 digs. Emma Bolich totaled 12 kills on a .524 hitting percentage, while Swinsburg added 11 kills without an attack error to hit .458. Arezina chipped in nine kills, while Towsey recorded 23 assists and Soyer DeLucy added 13.
King's controlled the opening two sets from the start. The Monarchs broke open the first with an 8-1 run to take a 12-4 advantage before cruising to a 25-13 win. They jumped ahead 8-3 in the second and continued to pull away, with a Towsey service ace helping fuel a late run as King's took the frame 25-14 and moved within one set of the sweep.
Wilson extended the match with a 25-21 victory in the third before the two sides battled throughout a closely contested fourth set. The frame featured 14 ties and six lead changes, but King's ultimately prevailed 25-23 to finish off its second four-set victory of the afternoon.
King's returns to MAC Freedom action on Wednesday, September 23, when the Monarchs host Stevens at 7 p.m. inside McGrane Gymnasium.
