WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 23, 2026) —  The King's College Field Hockey team suffered a 7-0 loss to Susquehanna University Wednesday evening at McCarthy Stadium. With the loss, the Monarchs fall to 1-7 on the season while Susquehanna improves to 2-7.

The River Hawks outshot the Monarchs 32-11, while King's recorded 23 total saves compared to Susquehanna's 10. Susquehanna also held a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners.

The visitors started the attack early with three shots in the first minute of the game, all of which were saved by  first-year goalkeeper Tierney Hogan. At 1:51, first-year Reagan Bergstrom made a defensive save to keep the game scoreless. Susquehanna opened the scoring in the 11th minute. They would add another goal at 14:37 to take a 2-0 lead right before the first quarter ended.

At 23:49, Hogan made another save before a Susquehanna player collected the rebound and fired a shot towards the net. Bergstrom instantly stepped in and made her second defensive save of the game to keep the score 2-0.

The River Hawks produced several more shots before halftime, but Hogan stopped each attempt. Hogan had eight saves at halftime. Early in the third quarter near the 32nd minute, Hogan made four consecutive saves to keep the River Hawks off the scoreboard. Susquehanna later added two more goals at 34:44 and 35:36. The visitors continued to apply pressure on the Monarchs with several more shots.

In the 40th minute, Amelia Mason recorded her first defensive save of her career. Hogan made another save on the ensuing attempt, but the River Hawks eventually scored their fifth goal of the match.

At 42:00, the River Hawks added another goal to make it 6-0, scoring four goals in the third quarter. The Monarchs began generating offensive chances early in the fourth quarter.

At 46:41, Susquehanna's goalkeeper saved a shot from first-year Gwen Erb before King's was awarded its first penalty corner of the game. Shortly after the corner, Erb fired a shot that was saved by the goalkeeper. The rebound fell to Melanie Tlatenchi, whose shot was blocked by a defender.

King's continued to pressure the River Hawks defense, recording three shots in the 47th minute, but none found the back of the net. Near the the start of the 48th minute, Megan Harry fired a shot off a corner from Tlatenchi, but the Susquehanna goalkeeper made the save. Seconds later, Shaylee Heffron fired another shot that was also stopped.

King's continued to create offensive chances in the 48th minute, but the Susquehanna defense kept the Monarchs off the scoreboard. At 53:43, the River Hawks scored their seventh and final goal. The final whistle sounded with the away team securing the 7-0 victory.

Tierney Hogan finished with 18 saves, while the Monarchs recorded five defensive saves. Tlatenchi led the team in penalty corners with five, while Erb led the team in shots with four.

The Monarchs return to action on Saturday, September 26, at McCarthy Stadium as they take on Oneonta at 5:00 p.m. for Homecoming.
