WILKES-BARRE, PA. (September 26, 2026) -- The King's College field hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to SUNY Oneonta on Saturday afternoon at Betzler Field and McCarthy Stadium as the Monarchs hosted the Red Dragons for the first time in 28 years on Homecoming.
Oneonta opened the scoring midway through the second quarter before adding another goal late in the period to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
King's responded early in the third quarter as
Gwen Erb found the back of the cage at the 39:46 mark, with
Amelia Mason providing the assist. The goal marked Erb's second of the season and brought the Monarchs within one.
The Red Dragons answered just 15 seconds later to regain a two-goal advantage before adding two more goals later in the third quarter to extend their lead to 5-1.
King's continued to pressure Oneonta throughout the contest, earning 15 penalty corners compared to nine for the Red Dragons. The Monarchs finished with five shots, all of which were on goal, while Oneonta recorded 23 shots with 19 on target.
Tierney Hogan made 11 saves in goal for King's, while the Monarchs also recorded two defensive saves from
Amelia Mason and
Shaylee Heffron. Oneonta goalkeeper Eva Klessel made three saves.
With the loss, King's falls to 1-7 on the season, while Oneonta improves to 3-4.
The Monarchs return to action on the road Wednesday, September 30, when they travel to Lancaster Bible College for a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
