-- The King's College women's soccer team fell 2-0 on the road against Kean University on Wednesday night. With the loss, the Monarchs move to 2-6 on the season, and Kean with the win advances to 5-3-1.
King's and Kean played to a scoreless opening 43 minutes before the Cougars broke through with 1:40 remaining in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Kean added to its lead early in the second half, scoring in the 55th minute to make it a 2-0 contest.
The Monarchs created several opportunities throughout the match.
Maya Parker recorded King's first shot of the night in the third minute, forcing a save, before adding another shot on goal in the 16th minute that was also saved.
Victoria Hanna added a shot in the 14th minute that went wide, while
Mackenzie Seeley put a shot on target in the 16th minute that was saved.
Mackenzie Huffer later recorded a shot in the 28th minute that missed to the left.
King's continued to generate chances after halftime.
Madison Jellema put a shot on target in the 62nd minute that was saved, followed by
Isabella Pacia forcing a save in the 68th minute. Pacia then hit the crossbar in the 70th minute before having another shot blocked in the 77th minute. Pacia finished with three shots, including one on target.
Kelsey Sorensen started in goal for King's and made four saves across the opening 45 minutes.
Courtney Monard played the second half and made two saves.
King's finished the night with nine shots, putting five on goal, while Kean recorded 13 shots with eight on target. The Cougars also held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Monarchs return home for Homecoming on Saturday, September 26, hosting Bryn Mawr College at 7:30 p.m.
