Women's Soccer Edged By Widener In 1-0 Setback

CHESTER, PA (September 4, 2026) -- The King's College women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback to Widener University Friday afternoon. The Monarchs fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Pride advance to a 2-0 start.
 
Goalkeeper Kelsey Sorensen was tested throughout the opening half, making one save as the Pride recorded eight shots and three corner kicks. King's was held without a shot during the opening 45 minutes as the two teams entered halftime scoreless.
 
Widener continued to apply pressure following the intermission, hitting the crossbar in the 49th minute before Sorensen made two more saves in the second half.
 
The Pride finally broke through in the 67th minute, finding the back of the net to take a 1-0 advantage.
 
King's recorded its first shot of the afternoon in the 70th minute when Victoria Hanna's attempt sailed wide of the right post. Mackenzie Huffer added the Monarchs' final attempt in the 87th minute, but her shot went high and left.
 
The Monarchs were unable to find the equalizer in the closing minutes as Widener held on for the 1-0 victory.
 
Widener finished the afternoon with a 16-2 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. Sorensen recorded three saves for the Monarchs, while Widener did not record a save.
 
The Monarchs return to the pitch on Saturday, September 5, as they travel to Swarthmore College for a 4:00 p.m. showdown with the Garnet.
