KING'S FIELD HOCKEY OVERPOWERS WELLS 8-0
WILKES-BARRE, PA--- Freshman forward Jenera Quinones led the Lady Monarchs offense in an 8-0 rout of Wells College on Sunday afternoon. Quinones scored two goals and tallied one assist. With the win, King's improves to 12-2 overall, while Wells falls to 3-9.
Quinones started the scoring off early, finding the goal just 1:09 into the match after handling a rebounded shot. Forward Debbie Wychock would add the second tally of the day only thrity seconds later at 33:45. Wychock dribbled the ball through the defense and sailed it to the far post of the goal. Quinones would tally her assist when she crossed the ball through the circle to the waiting stick of Danielle Terracciano who flicked the ball into the goal at 30:59. Wells was able to stop the Monarchs on offense for the rest of the period, sending King's up 3-0 going into halftime.
To start the second half, Quinones would score her second goal of the day, recieving a pass across the circle off the stick of Wychock with 23:05 remaining in the second half. Lindsey O'Brein would set up the next goal when she passed the ball to Terracciano for her second score of the day. O'Brein was credited with the assist at 20:48 in the half.
Amanda Schwartztrauber would be the next King's player to score, taking a pass from the top of the circle from Christina Glenn. Shawna Walp scored the seventh goal of the day, taking a shot off of a penalty corner. Schwartztrauber took the corner, sending the ball across the offensive area. The final goal of the game was scored by Melissa Pirigy with ten minutes left in the game.
King's split time between two goalies. Erin McGinley started the game and was relieved in the second half by Michelle Ray. Neither net minder was forced to make a save, as King's held a 21-0 advantage in shots and a 17-2 handle on penalty corners.
The Lady Monarchs will be back in action on Wednesday October 22nd when they travel to St. David's, PA to face-off against conference foe Eastern University. Game time is set for 3:30pm.
