WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS IN SEASON OPENER

WILKES-BARRE--- Senior guard Kaitlyn Fiorino led all scorers with 15 points as a young Lady Monarchs team fell 72-49 in their season-opener against Gettysburg College at the 2008 Marymount Tip-Off Tournament. King's falls to 0-1 and Gettysburg improves to 1-0.

Fiorino finished the game with 15 points, after going 4-18 from the field and hitting 5-of-6 from the line. She also added six offensive boards, giving King's second chances. Freshman Abby Malloy had a solid first colligate game after scoring 10 points and shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Fellow freshman Paige Carlin led the Monarchs in rebounding with seven, including four on offense and three on defense. Julianna Lynott also tallied seven rebounds.

But Gettysburg offense proved to be too much for King's, with three players going double digits in scoring. Mary Spicer led the Bullets with 13 points while Caitlin Moser and Margaret White each tallied 12 points. Sara Kinsley played big underneath, grabbing 12 rebounds on four offensive and eight defensive. As a team, Gettysburg shot 44.3 percent from the field while going 66.7 from the line.
