KING'S MEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS 66-54 DECISION AT MISERICORDIA
DALLAS -- Host Misericordia University broke open a game tied at the half by opening the seocnd half with a 21-7 run as the Cougars posted a 66-54 victory over visiting King's College in Freedom Conference men's basketball matchup Wednesday in the Anderson Center.
With the loss, King's dropped its fifth straight game, falling to 4-5 overall and 0-3 in Freedom Conference play. Misericordia, meanwhile, improved to 6-3 and 1-1 in league play.
Misericordia would open the game with a 10-2 run following a bucket by Vinny Baumunk with 15:56 on the clock. After the Monarchs fought back to close to within 12-9 on a Kevin Conroy basket at the 14:02 mark, Dom DelPrete answered with a three-pointer to push the Cougar advantage to 15-9.
The Monarchs countered with a 11-0 surge to take a 20-15 lead with 8:20 remaining in the opening stanza following two foul shots from Chase McGowan and a pair of three-pointers by Adam Brasky and Wil Acevedo. Misericordia answered to recapture the lead at 24-22 on a DelPrete bucket with 5:05 on the clock.
The teams traded scores over the final minutes and were locked in a 30-30 tie with 1:52 left. DelPrete then gave the Cougars a 32-30 lead on a basket with 0:35 left, but the Monarchs forged a 32-32 halftime tie on a McGowan basket with 0:05 remaining.
In the second half King's came out cold and managed just one basket over the first 6:11 of the period until McGowan ended the drought on a basket with 13:49 left in the contest to cut the Cougar lead to 39-36.
Misericordia, however, responded with a decisive 21-7 run to build a 60-43 lead with 3:33 on the clock after a basket by Robbie Johnson. King's drew to within 11 points, at 62-51 at 2:13 when Jim Schule knocked down a three-pointer, but the Monarchs were unable to come closer.
McGowan led King's with 13 points and six rebounds while Conroy followed with 12 points and four boards. Brasky netted eight points while Kyle Stackhouse tallied six.
DelPrete led Misericordia with 28 points.
King's will be idle until the Monarchs compete in the Wilkes-Barre Challenge January 3-4 at Wilkes University.
