KING'S SOFTBALL FALLS TO MORAVIAN, 4-2; LYNCHBURG, 4-3
SALISBURY, MD -- Moravian College, ranked 23rd nationally in Division III, posted a 4-2 victory over King's College in the first game of the Salisbury Invitational Tournament in Salisbury, Md. The Lady Monarchs then dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to third-ranked Lynchburg.
King's, which suffered its first defeat of the season against Moravian, scored both of its runs in the sixth inning when
Abbey Knoblauch cracked a two-run home run, driving in
Leanne Harvey to cut the lead to 4-2.
Kelsey Shreaves was the losing pitcher for King's allowing four earned runs with one walk and no strikeouts.
Against Lynchburg, King's took a 2-0 first inning lead when Knoblauch and Annie Drimones drew walks. Meghan Galvin delivered an RBI single before
Gretchen Tholen brought in another run with an infield out.
In the third inning, Lynchburg scored four unearned runs to take a 4-2 lead. With two outs, a King's infield error was followed by an RBI singled, then a three-run home run.
King's cut the lead to 4-3 in the fifth when Drimones singled and later scored on a base hit from Lindsey Hoerner.
The Lady Monarchs would get three different runners on base in the sixth but were unable to score.
Hoerner was the hard-luck loser for King's, allowing four unearned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.
