KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS TWIN BILL WITH ARCADIA
GLENSIDE -- The King's softball team won the first game of a Freedom Conference doubleheader at Arcadia University 14-3 in five innings, but dropped the nightcap 4-3 to settle for a split Thursday in Glenside.
By going 1-1 on the day, King's stands at 15-7 overall and 5-3 in Freedom Conference play while Arcadia owns a 13-16 overall mark and is 3-5 in league games.
In the opener King's erupted for seven runs in the third inning, two in the fourth and five more in the fifth.
Lauren DeCreny finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, including a fifth inning double.
Abbey Knoblauch was 2-for-3 with two runs while
Kelsey Shreaves was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Leanne Harvey added a two-run single in the fifth inning. Shreaves was the winning pitcher, allowing three earned runs on seven hits.
In the second game King's trailed 3-1 but tied the game with two runs in the top of the seventh inning when Shreaves singled and scored on a double by Knoblauch. Harvey then followed with an RBI double of her own to tie the score at 3-3.
But Arcadia would push across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh when Diana Ruflo doubled and score on a double from Amanda Celentano.
Becky Loring led King's by going 3-for-3 while Knoblauch was 2-for-3 with one run and an RBI. Annie Drimones also added an RBI single for King's.
Lindsey Hoerner was the losing pitcher for King's, allowing four runs, three earned, in seven innings.
The Lady Monarchs return to action Saturday at 2:00 p.m. when King's hosts Delaware Valley in a doubleheader at Betzler Fields.
