MONARCH MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS 64-54 AT EASTERN
ST. DAVIDS, PA --- Following a 41 point effort last week against Delaware Valley, sophomore forward
Kevin Conroy again led all scorers with 19 points in a 64-54 loss on the road to Eastern University, snapping a four game win streak for the Monarchs.
With the loss, King's is now 8-6 overall on the season and 1-6 in the Freedom, while Eastern improves to 7-4 and is now 1-3 in the conference.
After finding themselves down 32-25 at the half, King's needed to claw their way back into the game. At several key points in the second half, the Monarchs found themselves within two points, but were unable to convert to a lead before the Eagles took off scoring again, forcing King's to work even harder to stay within striking distance. With 2:55 to go in the game, a huge three pointer by junior guard
Mike Wagner brought the Monarchs back to within two, and the score was 54-52.
But an 8-2 run in the final 2:30 was the downfall of a late surge for King's. Tyronne Coleman was able to advance the score to 57-52 by converting an and-one opportunity for the Eagles. At the free-throw line for the game, King's shot 66.7 (12-18) percent. The Eagles picked up four three pointers from four different players and shot 42.6 percent from the field.
Junior forward/guard
Jim Schule scored a career second-best 16 points in the effort, as well as pulling down seven rebounds, shooting an impressive 62 (8-13) percent from the field. Wagner was able to grab five boards on the night.
Leading the Eastern squad, Jason Reels tied with Conroy in points with 19 and paced all rebounders with six. Coleman was 4-of-6 from the field to earn his 12 points. Tyrik Tucker also tapped in nine points and six rebounds.
The Monarchs are back in conference play this weekend when they host the Valiants of Mannhattanville College. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in the Scandlon Gymnasium on the campus of King's College.
