Lady Monarch Tennis Falls to Wilkes in Battle of Conference Unbeatens

WILKES WOMEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS KING'S IN BATTLE FOR TOP SPOT IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE

WILKES-BARRE -- Defending Freedom Conference champion Wilkes University clinched the top seed for the Freedom Conference team championships as the Lady Colonels posted a 9-0 victory over King's College at Kirby Park in a battle between the two remaining unbeaten teams in league play.

With the win, Wilkes improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in Freedom Conference play while King's slipped to 9-3 and 5-1 in league matches.

Wilkes opened the match by wining all three doubles contests before capturing each of the six singles bouts to blank the Lady Monarchs.

For Wilkes, Melanie Nolt, Katrina Lynn, Xiaoqiao Zhang, Alexis Donner, and Michelle Knight were all winners in both doubles and singles. Rebekah Shanaman teamed with Knight to also record a victory in doubles.

For King's, the Lady Monarchs' best performances came in doubles, where Lauren Breen and Maria Cometa teamed up for the first time ever when Breen's regular partner Christy Rossowski was unable to play doubles due to am academic obligation. Breen and Cometa fell 8-5 to Zhang and Donner.  In singles, Breen was again the top King's performer, falling 6-4, 6-2 to Knight.
