Breen Reaches Semi-Finals as MAC Tourney Runs well into the Night

BREEN ADVANCES TO SEMI-FINALS OF MAC TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
 
WILKES-BARRE -- As the inclement weather continued in Northeastern Pennsylvania on Saturday, so does the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships - well into the night. With the tournament relegated to the Kingston Indoor Tennis Center due to continued rains, play on day-two has bogged down deep into the evening hours.

When the dust settled, King's College junior Lauren Breen was the sole Lady Monarch to advance to Sunday's semi-finals.

Playing number-five singles, Lauren Breen won her first-round pairing with a 8-3 triumph over Alvernia's Caroline Miller. In the quarterfinals, Breen tallied a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Amerlia Lloyd of DeSales.  Breen will play in the semi-finals Sunday morning which are set to begin at approximately 11:00 a.m. after a morning round of tournament doubles play. In her semi-final matchup, Breen will meet Irina Samson of Arcadia with the winner playing for the number-five flight MAC championship.

In the number-one singles flight, King's Jillian Tallarico won her first-round matchup with an 8-3 victory over Christie McGinley of Messiah. In the second round she fell to top-seeed Melanie Nolt of Wilkes 6-4, 6-4.
 
At number-two singles, King's Courtnay Wilson posted a 8-3 victory over Rebecca Reynolds of Lycoming. In the second round, she dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to top-seeded Katrina Lynn of Wilkes
 
In the third singles flight, Christy Rossowski earned a 8-3 victory over Krista Damirgian of DeSales. In her second round matchup, Rossowski fell to Katie Marstaller of Messiah 6-3, 6-2
 
At fourth singles,  King's Jennifer Bader dropped a 8-3 verdict to Courtney Otto of Misericordia.
 
In the six singles slot, Maria Cometa fell to Ellyn Wingert by a 8-4 count.
