WILKES-BARRE -- King's College women's tennis standout Lauren Breen placed second in the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Tennis Championships which wrapped up Sunday at Kirby Park.

Breen's accomplishment capped a wild weekend of foul weather which resulted in the tournament starting on Friday, a day earlier, that originally scheduled, with the first two days being played inside at the Kingston Tennis Center.

On Sunday, the tournament finally saw sunshine and Breen emerged as the brightest light on the King's squad as she was the lone Lady Monarch to advance to the semi-finals.

After winning two matches on Saturday to reach Sunday's semi-finals, the fourth-seeded Breen squared off with Irina Samson of Arcadia. The King's junior battled to win a gut-wrenching 7-6 first set, then dominated the second set 6-1 to reach the championship match of the number-five singles flight.

There, Breen would meet third-seeded Alena Marani of Elizabethtown College. Breen won the first game of each set, but Marani fought back each time to post a 6-4, 6-4 victory to claim the MAC title. Breen would finish the season with an outstanding 10-3 mark, best on the Lady Monarch squad.

Breen reached the semi-finals after winning both of her singles contests on Saturday. She won her first-round pairing with a 8-3 triumph over Alvernia's Caroline Miller before Breen tallying a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Amelia Lloyd of DeSales in the quarterfinal round.
