KING'S MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM SET TO OPEN 2009-10 CAMPAIGNS TUESDAY AT PENN COLLEGE

WILKES-BARRE – The King's College men's basketball team will open its 2009-10 campaign Tuesday when the Monarchs travel to Williamsport to face Penn College in a 7:00 p.m., matchup.

After winning back-to-back Freedom Conference men's championships in 2007 and 2008, the Monarchs were hit hard by graduation losses as only one starter returned last year. An inexperienced King's squad used the year as a learning experienced and finished the campaign with a 11-14 record, including a late-season victory over eventual Freedom Conference champion and NCAA National Tournament “Elite Eight” qualifier DeSales. This season, head coach J.P. Andrejko returns all five starters and are banking a on a return to contender status following the lessons learned.

Leading the list of veterans in junior center-forward Kevin Conroy who earned first-team All-Freedom Conference status a year ago.  The 6-5, 220-pound Conroy enjoyed a banner sophomore year, averaging 16.6 points and 6.1 rebounds while netting a career-high 41 points, the sixth highest single-game total in program history.

The Monarchs also welcome back senior forward Jim Schule, who averaged 11.0 points and 4.5 rebounds; senior guard Mike Wagner, 7.9 points and 42 three-pointers; sophomore point-guard Kyle Stackhouse, 6.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists; and sophomore guard Nick Reisig, 6.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 36 three-pointers. Senior guard Wil Acevedo, junior point-guard Adam Brasky, and sophomore guards Bill Joyce and Eric Brown will add depth to the back court while sophomore small forward Tim Sanderson also competes for an increased role.

Freshman looking to make impact will include 6-3 guard Dan Maguschak and 5-10 Matt Fiorino, the younger brother of 2009 King's graduate Kaitlyn Fiorino who conclude her career as the third all-time leading scorer in Lady Monarch history. Mike McCready, a 6-5 freshman forward, has looked solid thus far and is expected to earn quality time on the inside. Other rookies looking to contribute include 6-3 small forward Jonathan Gilmore, 6-4 power forward Ian Oakley, and 6-7 center Chris Uhl.
