KING'S MEN REGISTER 62-59 WIN OVER MANHATTANVILLE IN FIRST CONFERENCE VICTORY
PURCHASE, NY – The King's College men's basketball team registered its first conference win of the season as the Monarchs posted a 62-59 victory over host Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY.
With the win King's improved to a 2-5 overall and 1-1 conference record while Manhattanville dropped to 4-4 overall and 1-1 mark.
The two teams kept the score close with two free throws by Dan Maguschak to take the 27-24 lead into the break. A good basket by Kevin Conroy gave the Monarchs the five-point advantage with a 39-34 lead with 12:52 left in the second half. The Valiants cut into the lead with a layup by Angelo Laroche with 9:36 on the clock. Mike Wagner gave KIng's a 46-43 lead after he drained a three-point shot at 6:34.
Angele LaRoche tied the game at 46-46 with 5:24 remaining, but King's used a 6-0 surge, capped by another three-pointer by Wagner at 3:01 to make the score 55-49. Kyle Stackhouse sealed the win by making eight-of-eight three throws over the fiinal minute to secure the King's victory.
Wagner led King's with 23 points, shooting seven three-pointers, while Kevin Conroy added 12 points, five boards and five assists. Stackhouse added eight points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal. Jim Schule rounded out the offense for King's as he contributed seven points, five boards, two assists and one block.
TreVoy Pointer led Manhattanville with 16 points, nine rebounds and five steals while Peter Mehmel added 11 points and one assist. Jeffrey Ventura added six points to round out the Valiants scoring.
King's returns to action on Friday and Saturday as they host the Monarch Classic at Scandlon Gymnasium. The Monarchs are set to face non-conference foe Susquehanna University at 8:00 p.m. on Friday night.
