BALANCED MONARCH MEN EARN 73-58 VICTORY OVER MISERICORDIA
WILKES-BARRE – The King's College men's basketball team put together one of its most balanced efforts of the season as the Monarchs posted a 73-58 victory over visiting Misericordia University Wednesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win, King's improved to 10-10 overall and 2-9 in Freedom Conference play while Misericordia fell to 10-10 and 4-7.
King's jumped out to a 14-8 lead following back-to-back jumpers by Kyle Stackhouse and Kevin Conroy. . The Monarchs would later take a 17-10 lead on one-of-two foul shots form Wil Acevedo, but Misericordia fought back to cut the lead to 17-16 with 8:58 remaining in the first half after a pair of foul shots by Dom DelPrete. With King's holding on to a 22-20 lead, the Monarchs used a 7-0 spurt thanks to four points from Conway and a three-pointer by Mike Wagner to push the score to 29-20 with 4:34 left on the clock.
After Cougar three-pointer cut the lead to 29-23, Wagner answered with another three-pointer and Conway converted a traditional three-point play to give the Monarchs a 35-25 lead with 2:57 left. The Cougars would end the half on a 7-2 run as the Monarchs took a 37-32 advantage at the break.
In the second half King's patiently extended its advantage to 54-41 capped by back-to-back three-pointers by Wagner with 11:48 to play. The Cougars would draw no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Conroy led King's with 17 points and eight rebounds while Wagner followed with 16 points on the strength of f-of-5 shooting from three-point range. Stackhouse tallied 11 points with seven assists while Nick Reisig contributed 10 points four assists, and four rebounds. Jim Schule and Harry Schlichter chipped in with seven and six points respectively.
Vinny Baumunk led Misericordia with 19 points while Jeff Slanovec came off the bench to net 11.
