King's Softball Falls in Opening Pair at Salisbury Tourney

KING'S SOFTBALL FALLS TO CABRINI, CNU ON FIRST DAY OF SALISBURY TOURNEY
 
SALISBSURY, MD --  The King's College softball team dropped both games it played on the first day of the prestigious Seagull Invitational Tournament at Salisbury University, Salisbury, MD. The Lady Monarchs fell to Cabrini 4-1 in its first game before dropping a 13-0 decision to 13th ranked Christopher-Newport.

In the opener against Cabrini, Gretchen Tholen paved King's by going 2-for-3 with a RBI. Meghan Galvin was 1-for-3 with a double and scored the lone run of the game for King's. Christy Parfitt also added a single for the Lady Monarchs. Lindsay Hoerner took the pitching loss, allowing eight hits and two earned runs while striking out five batters.

In the second contest against Christopher-Newport, King's freshman pitcher Shawna Walp took the loss in her collegiate debut, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in five innings of work. Walp was one of three King's players to register base hits. Jacquie O'Brien and Samantha Hoernberger also added singles for the Lady Monarchs.
 
King's will wrap up the tournament on Saturday with a 9:00 a.m. matchup with traditional national power Moravian, followed by a 12:00 noon contest with Virginia Wesleyan
