WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball team improved to 10-6 on the year with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Lycoming College Wednesday at Betzler Fields.  King's won the first game 10-2 before taking the nightcap 8-0. Both games were halted after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.

In the opener King's took command immediately with six runs in the first inning. A two run double by Christie Parfitt, a two-run home run from Lindsey Hoerner, and a RBI single off the bat of Gretchen Tholen enabled the Lady Monarchs to build the early lead. Hoerner finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI while Tholen was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Samantha Hornberger went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Meaghan Galvin was 2-for-4 with a triple and scored two runs.  Hoerner was the winning pitcher, allowing two unearned runs on three hits with four strikeouts.

In the nightcap, King's scored a run in the first inning and two each in the second and third to build a 5-0 lead. The game ended when the Lady Monarchs plated three more runs in the fifth inning. Tholen and Jacquie O'Brien were both 2-for-2 with one run and a RBI. Lauren DeCreny was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI while Knoblauch was 2-for-3 with a run scored.  Shawna Walp was the winning pitcher, allowing just two hits with four strikeouts.

King's returns to action Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with a doubleheader against defending Freedom Conference champion DeSales University in Center Valley.
