KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS ONEONTA FOLLOWING SECOND-GAME COMEBACK

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball team overcame a 2-0 deficit with four runs in the sixth inning to post a 4-2 comeback victory over visiting Oneonta State University in the second game of a doubleheader sweep at Robert L. Betzler Fields.

King's, which won the first game 8-0 in five innings, improved to 14-12 on the year while Oneonta State slipped to 15-15.

Trailing entering the bottom half of the sixth inning, King's began a one-out rally when Lauren DeCreny singled and Rachel Zinni drew a bases-on-balls. Pinch hitter Samantha Hornberger then stroked an RBI double to centerfield, moving Zinni to third base. Pinch hitter Christy Parfitt tapped a ground ball to third base and Zinni beat the throw home to knot the score at 2-2. Shawna Walp would bring home Hornberger form third base with an infield ground ball, moving Parfitt to third. Abbey Knoblauch then delivered a single down the third base line to plate Parfitt for a 4-2 lead. Walp then shut down the Red Dragons in the seventh to pick up the victory. The rookie hurler allowed two runs on eight hits and struck out four batters. Seven different King's players had one base hit in the game.

In the opener, the Lady Monarchs took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Lindsey Hoerner drilled an opposite field home run over the right field fence. The score would remain the same until King's exploded fort seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

DeCreny singled, followed by back-to-back walks to Katie Fry and Knoblauch. Meaghan Galvin delivered an RBI single to center field before Gretchen Tholen came through with a run-scoring single through the left side to give the Lady Monarchs a 4-0 lead. Two outs later, Parfitt stroked a two-run single to center before Hornberger followed up a base hit to right field to bring home the final run of the game.

Hoerner, who was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and home run, was also in command in the circle, finishing with her second five-inning one-hitter of the week. DeCreny was 3-for-3 at the plate to pace the Lady Monarch offense.
