KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS DEL-VAL
WILKES-BARRE – The King's College softball team improved to 16-12 on the year with a doubleheader sweep of Delaware Valley in Doylestown on Saturday. King's won the first game, which was halted after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule 16-0 and captured the second game 4-1.
In the opener King's took command early with six runs in the second inning.
Katie Fry and
Becky Loring both had two-run singles each while
Lindsey Hoerner hit a double to left field to drive in two more runs to give the Lady Monarchs the early lead.
Abbey Knoblauch went 3-for4 with three RBI and three runs while
Becky Loring was 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored.
Lindsey Hoerner was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits with three strikeouts; she also went 1-for-4 at the plate with three RBI.
Hoerner started for the Lady Monarchs in the nightcap going five and one-third inning before freshman
Shawna Walp came in to save the game in the top of the sixth inning. Delaware Valley had the bases loaded with one out when Walp was able to get a strike out and a pop out to end the inning.
Offensively for King's, the Lady Monarchs were able to score three runs in the third inning via a Knoblauch RBI double to left center field. King's scored again in the fourth driving in three runs when
Lauren DeCreny and
Katie Fry both had RBI singles.
Meaghan Galvin hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive home
Samantha Hornberger. Knoblauch went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while
Becky Loring went 2-for-4.
Lauren DeCreny chipped in by going 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Hoerner was the winning pitcher allowing five hits with three strikeouts.
King's returns to action on Monday at 3:00 p.m. with a doubleheader against Cabrini College in Randor.
