KING'S WOMEN'S TENNIS BLANKS LYCOMING, 9-0
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's tennis team squeaked out two of three doubles matches, but rolled in singles, taking all six bouts, as the Lady Monarchs posted a 9-0 shutout of visiting Lycoming College Sunday at Kirby Park.
With the win, King's improved to 3-0 while Lycoming fell in its first match of the year.
After Christy Rossowski and Lauren Breen won an easy 8-0 veridct at number-two singles, the Lady Monarchs won close contests in the other two doubles pairings. Jillian Tallarico and Diana Darby eeked out a 9-7 victory over Aimee Snyder and Rebecca Reynolds at number-one doubles, while Maria Cometa and Courtnay Wilson won by the same margin over Katie Walker and Sarah Jolly at third doubles.
Leading 3-0 heading into the singles, the Lady Monarchs never looked back and won all six individual matches without dropping a set. In fact, no King's player lost more than four games in a single set.
Tallarico, Wilson, Rossowski, Breen, and Cometa were joined by Rachel Hoffnagle as straight set winners to secure the shutout victory.
