King's Field Hockey Drops Overtime Verdict to Juniata, 3-2

KING'S FIELD HOCKEY DROPS 3-2 OVERTIME HEARTBREAKER TO JUNIATA

 

HOBOKEN, NJ – Paula Price scored on a breakaway 8:19 into the first overtime period as the Juniata College field hockey team outlasted King's College 3-2 in the opening round of the Stevens Technical Institute Invitational Saturday in Hoboken, NJ.

 

With the win, Juniata improved to 1-1 while King's fell to 1-1.

Juniata took a 2-0 lead on goals by Kim Amrod and Kara Buda 21:21 into the contest. King's would cut the margin in half when Jenera Quinines scored following a penalty corner with 5:07 left in the first half. The Lady Monarchs would control play and eventually tied the score when Candice Russ converted a penalty stroke with 23:53 remaining. King's would outshoot the Eagles 9-4 in the second half but were unable to take the lead. 

In overtime, Price gained possession for a breakaway attempt and managed to hold off a King's defender before putting the ball in goal.

King's outshot Juniata 14-13 while holding a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners. King's starting goalie Michelle Ray made one save, allowing two goals, while Erin McGinley made two stops in 51 minutes of action.

 

The Lady Monarchs will conclude tournament play on Sunday when King's faces host Stevens Institute at 11:00 a.m.
