King's Men's Basketball Edged By Late DeSales Run, 66-55

KING'S MEN EDGED BY DESALES, 66-55, SEE WIN STREAK SNAPPED AT SIX GAMES
 
CENTER VALLEY --  Host DeSales University overcame a one-point deficit by outscoring the King's College men's basketball team 18-8 over the final 7:17 of play to post an important 66-55 victory in a key Freedom Conference matchup Saturday in Center Valley.

With the win, the defending Freedom Conference champion Bulldogs improved to 13-0 and 7-0 in Freedom Conference play while the Monarchs slipped to 9-9 and 5-2 in league games. In the process, King's saw its six-game winning streak come to an end.
 
The game was closely contested throughout and King's held a 48-47 lead with 7:17 to play after a short jumper from Mike McCreadyDeSales took the lead when Brian Hunter drained a three-pointer at the 6:05 mark. After another bucket by Hunter upped the Bulldog lead to 52-48, Mike Wagner brought the Monarchs to within 52-51 on a trey of his own with 4:24 left on the clock.
 
But DeSales responded with a three-pointer by all-American guard Darnell Braswell and  lay-up from Matt Zwetolitz with 2:23 to play to push the Bulldog advantage to 57-51. After a King's jumper by Kyle Stackhouse cut the lead to 57-53 with 1:40 remaining.
 
DeSales, however, would put the game away by making 7-of-10 foul shots down the stretch to walk away with the victoiy
 
Braswell finished with 21 points, including three three-pointers. Hunter followed with 14 points while Zwetolitz added 10 points.
 
Kevin Conroy led King's with 18 points and six rebounds while Stackhouse followed with 14 points and four assists. Wagner added nine points, including three three-pointers.
 
King's will be idle until Saturday when the Monarchs host Manhattanville College at 3:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gym.
