KING'S FOOTBALL IN SEARCH OF FIRST WIN SATURDAY AT ALBRIGHT

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College football team will return to action Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when the Monarchs travel to Reading to face Middle Atlantic Conference rival Albright College at 1:00 p.m. at Gene L. Shirk Stadium.  
        
King's (0-5, 0-2 MAC) enters the game looking to post their first victory of the season under rookie head coach Jeff Knarr. The Monarchs stand at 0-5 thus far and have dropped three of their last four games by a touchdown or less. King's went 0-3 in their three non-conference games in preparation for the opening of MAC play.

After a  31-7 loss to powerful Springfield College on opening day, the Monarchs fell 31-28 to Bethany, followed by a 14-7 loss to William Paterson. Two weeks ago, the Monarchs dropped its MAC opener with a 31-24 loss at Lycoming College. Last week, King's trailed Widener 28-21 in the fourth quarter before eventually falling 36-21.

ABOUT THE GAME:
Today's game represents week-three of the Middle Atlantic Conference schedule. Both teams are in search of their first MAC victory of the season.            

ABOUT THE SERIES:
This is the 16th meeting between the two programs with Albright holding a 9-5-1 advantage. Albright won last season's game with a 34-16 victory in Wilkes-Barre. King's last victory over Albright was a 38-14 decision in 2006. The Monarchs last win at Albright was a 35-7 triumph in 2002.        

THE COACHES:
Monarch mentor Jeff Knarr is in his first season at King's after spending the past 11 years as an assist at Muhlenberg College, serving the final four as offensive coordinator.  Albright coach John Marzka is in his fourth year with the Lions where he is 26-9.             

LAST WEEK:
King's hosted Widener on Homecoming and dropped a 36-21 decision in which the Monarchs trailed just 28-21 in the fourth quarter. Albright also lost on its own Homecoming last week, falling to Lycoming 50-0. King's and Lycoming played two weeks ago with the Monarchs falling 31-24.            

KING'S ON OFFENSE:    MULTIPLE - I
The Monarch offense is averaging 279.0 yards of total offense per-game, including 78.2 rushing yards and 200.8 passing yards.  Senior quarterback Corey Lavin runs the show and has completed  84-of-172 passes for 1,002 yards with seven touchdowns and six interceptions.  The ground game is paced by sophomore tailback Eric Ofcharsky who has 249 yards on 63 carries while adding 13 pass receptions for 141 yards. Junior tailback Matt Spencer, who has missed the last two games with an injury, adds 59 rushing yards on 16 carries while senior Brandon Murray chips in with 45 yards on 17 attempts.              

Sophomore David Abdalla tops the receivers with 24 catches for 447 yards with three touchdowns and averages 18.6 yards per-reception. Senior  split end Jay Torres adds 13 catches for 184 yards; junior wide-out Glenn Ford contributes 13 catches for 100 yards and two scores; while senior tight end John Cuiffo has caught seven passes for 46 yards and one touchdown. Senior tight end Ken Loomis has  six catches for 42 yards while junior fullback Jordan Haddock  has made six receptions for 32 yards.

ALBRIGHT ON OFFENSE:    MULTIPLE
The Albright offense enters the game averaging 370.2 total yards per-game, including 173.4 rushing yards and 196.8 passing yards each contest. Sophomore Adam Galczynski is expected to get the start at quarterback and has completed 39-of-63 passes for 538 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. He has also rushed for 120 yards on 27 attempts. Freshman Ben Schaffle, however, has also played in all five games and has completed 20-of-42 passes for 262 yards with four interceptions.

The rushing game is paced by junior tailback Josan Holmes who has 486 yards on 97 carries with eight touchdowns and averages 5.0 yards per-carry. Holmes has also caught 10 passes out of the backfield for 188 yards. Junior split end Scott Pillar has 14 catches for 235 yards with two touchdowns while senior flanker Luke Wallace also has 14 receptions for 175 yards and one score.  Junior end Josh Bakala adds 12 catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

KING'S ON DEFENSE:    MULTIPLE 3-4
King's  has allowed 371.8 yards of total offense per-game thus far, including 214.2 rushing yards and 157.6 passing yards.  Sophomore linebacker Ryan Kelly tops the unit with 59 tackles and 2.0 sacks for 13 yards in losses. Fellow second-year linebacker Ryan Cordingly follows with 41 tackles with 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks for 17 lost yards. Senior safety Edwyn Edwards adds 32 tackles with  2.0 tackles for loss and an interception. Senior defensive end Ryan Nelson has tallied 25 tackles with 3.0 for loss while junior safety Jim McHugh posts 25 tackles with two interceptions.         

Sophomore linebacker Matt Henry contributes 22 tackles with 5.5 tackles for loss while senior nose guard Nick Beinke also has 22 tackles with 2.0 sacks. Senior lineman Craig Geibert has registered 20 tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks while sophomore cornerback Andrew Yablonsky has 18 tackles with an interception and three passes broken up. Sophomore linebacker Mike Briggs chips in with 15 tackles.          

ALBRIGHT ON DEFENSE:    MULTIPLE
The Lion defense allows 384.6 yards of total offense each game, including 218.0 passing yards and 166.6 rushing yards per-contest. Senior linebacker Bob Mancielli tops the unit with 30 tackles and one tackle for loss. Senior cornerback Josh Hare follows with 23 tackles and a fumble recovery. Junior cornerback Mark Bergery adds 23 tackles with an interceptions and has broken up six passes.  Junior linebacker Ryan Ott registers 22 tackles with four passes broken up. Sophomore rover Malik Compton and senior defensive tackle Eddie Mitchem have made 21 tackles apiece.         

Junior defensive end Francis Hall has 20 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss while junior safety Keith Bruno tacks on 19 stops. Sophomore defensive end Don Gould and junior defensive tackle Rion Robinson have both tallied 16 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.  Senior linebacker Nick Goodling has 16 tackles while senior linebacker Ryan McAdams and junior cornerback Joe Arneth contribute 15 tackles each.
