KING'S FIELD HOCKEY CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH 4-1 LOSS AT MONTCLAIR STATE

MONTCLAIR, NJ -- Brittany Carroll collected her first career hat trick while Melissa Flaherty added a goal and three assists as Montclair State downed King's College 4-1 at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

Following the loss, King's concludes its regular season slate with a 14-4 overall mark. Montclair State improves to 10-6 on the year.

Senior forward Danielle Terracciano scored for King's, which suffered just its fourth loss in 18 outings this season. The Monarchs also had their four-game winning streak snapped.

Each team traded scoring chances within the first three minutes of the contest before Montclair got the first goal on the board at 15:22 of the opening period. Moving the ball down inside the circle, Flaherty moved along the right side before firing a shot from the top toward the goal. Carroll was there to redirect the tip in as MSU grabbed a 1-0 lead.

King's answered back just over seven minutes later. Terracciano lifted a looping shot in the air over the head of Bosland, however MSU's Kelly Churchill stopped the ball from going in with a defensive save. The ball then trickled back up and Terracciano alertly tapped in the rebound for the goal, her 12th as the Monarchs tied the game at 1-1 with 12:17 to go before halftime.

Montclair State countered with two goals in the final seven minutes of the first half. The Flaherty-Carroll connection struck again with 6:57 left. Off a penalty corner, Flaherty moved in along the right side before flipping a pass to Carroll in front for the goal as MSU regained the lead. Flaherty collected her goal with 55 seconds remaining putting a rebound into the cage as the Red Hawks took their 3-1 lead at the half.

Carroll netted the hat trick with the only goal of the second half scoring at the 44:40 mark. Flaherty got the assist.

Lady Monarchs goalkeeper Erin McGinley had eight saves in net. Montclair State outshot King's 19-12 and had an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners.

King's will now begin their postseason run as the Lady Monarchs host FDU-Florham in the semi-finals of the Freedom Conference Tournament on Wednesday at McCarthy Stadium. Gametime is set for 4:00 p.m.
